Ice storm survivors -- check in!
We're back home now. We spent two days at MIL's house worrying about what we would find when we got home. Well, it's no worse than when we left on Saturday. Lots of trees down or snapped in half. One barely missed the house but there's no damage to the house other than the mess in the basement due to surface water intrusion from heavy rains and the sump pump not working due to no electricity. The county road that leads to our neighborhood is closed due to fallen trees that haven't yet been removed so there's still a lot of damage that hasn't been dealt with yet.

It's been a very stressful week and I'm glad to be home again. We're having very high winds today so just in case -- I filled the bathtub with water. We have a private well and if we lose power we can flush each toilet once. Then we have to replenish the water in the tank so we can flush again. It's a drag! But this is the price we pay for living in the beautiful, sometimes dangerous, middle-of-nowhere.

I'll take some photos of the damage tomorrow. It's so windy now that it's dangerous to be outdoors. Lots of stuff blowing around out there.

    So how'd everyone else fare?

Glad to hear you escaped major damage, even if there's a mess downstairs it could've been worse. Bet it's good to get home!

    Rhea, glad you are OK.

We did not loose power (thank God!) but many in our town did. Down power lines, no electricity, no water and no heat for many. Schools were turned into shelters for the many people who didn't have a place to go. School has been canceled 3 days now. Apparently the roads are still too dangerous for kids to walk on with live wires, debris and downed trees everywhere.

Photos of some of the damage on our property. This is nothing compared to what some folks had to deal with.

Seems like that damn storm cut a swatch due east from Albany. Glad you guys are okay, Ladidah and Scott.

Some folks took some very beautiful and artistic photos of the aftermath of the storm. Well, much more impressive than my snaps with the cell phone. Check it out!

I had to assist my parents with the Buffalo Snow/Ice storm of September 2006. I know what you're going through.

Rhea and Sjangro those were some nice shots on flickr. I am kicking myself to not have gone out now to get some shots of the ice on the branches. Another storm that illustrates how beautiful and destructive mother Nature can be at the same time.

Thanks. When the sun came out in the afternoon I had to take a drive to check it out and take pictures. Those taken on the road are in Bolton and Harvard.

Are we neighbors Ladidah? I'm in Stow.

(You don't have to answer that. )
