    Problems with FTP upload datafeeds
We entered our FTP details for uploading datafeeds to our server. When trying to upload we get the message...

"Could connect and login to FTP host but could not upload the files."

Is this due to our server settings or is this a Google Affiliate Network problem?

I had the exact same issue.

Are you trying to upload to a directory that does not exist yet? I think that was my problem

Thanks for the quick reply. Directory exist and I double checked the path to it so that could not be the problem I guess.

ok I tried another server. No error anymore. At least when testing the connection it did not generate an error but it did not upload the available datafeed files but maybe uploads are done only once a day or so? Can someone confirm this?

Depends on the merchant, some will take several days for the first file to show up

Ok thanks Julian for all the help. I'll keep an eye on that.

Are you saying this is not an automated process and that merchants need to upload datafeed files by hand? Just trying to understand the process. GAN does not provide a lot of info about this or maybe I'm just overlooking it.

some merchants may only upload once per week, so if you sign up the day after they upload, you may have to wait almost a week. I think that you only get the next file, and not the existing one, make sense?

It might be that you have to be approved by the merchant also, as I've signed up for 4 datafeeds and as of yet I am only recieving 3 of them.

    Hello,

Thank you all for answering questions!

Many merchants send us feeds daily. Others are weekly. Once you have an active feed account, you should receive the last feed we have on file. If you are not receiving feeds for a particular merchant, please send me your pubid and information. I will then escalate to the appropriate people.

    Thank you,

    Jamie

What if we don't want the feed pushed to our server? I'm not comfortable giving my password out to anyone. Is it possible to have the feed emailed?

GAN is discontinuing the email option. You can create a new ftp account just for the feed folder, you don't have to share your domain ftp password. If you have CP it takes about 2 minutes.

Hey, 2busy, thanks for that info. What is CP? How do I create an FTP account that will download to my PC rather than to my web sites? (I'm just not grokking how this would work but it sounds like exactly what I need.)

    Rhea,
I don't believe you can just download the feeds from GAN without them upload them to your FTP account on your site. From there you can download them and edit out what you don't want, but it is easier to just filter while importing to the database.
CP stands for site Control Panel.
    Hope this answers your questions.
