    Resolutions - Don't Drop-Kick the Puppy
The first part is a quote from the book and the second is the thoughts of a blog author, so I won't claim to have written it, but it was such a great thought that I have decided that it is now my New Year's Resolution. I just thought I would share.

In Bird by Bird, Anne Lamott writes:

    Don't Drop-Kick the Puppy

“Try looking at your mind as a wayward puppy that you are trying to paper train. You don’t drop-kick a puppy into the neighbor’s yard every time it piddles on the floor. You just keep bringing it back to the newspaper.”

This year, I’d like to be a little gentler with myself. I need to focus on my health, my environment, and the present tense. I’m going to take all the time I waste replaying my various inadequacies, and spend it celebrating the things I should be grateful for instead.

I wish you all the very best in 2009.

A wonderful post, thanks for sharing!!

Couldn't agree more, and a resolution like this (which is so beneficial!) didn't even occur to me until I read the words

    Yes, a very welcome quote

I think the tempo of contemporary society frequently makes us too hard on ourselves.

All the best to you as well.
