On behalf of all of the Webgains team here in our New York office, we'd like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Looking back on '08, we have achieved a lot in a short space of time and this is mainly due to the support we get from the affiliates and affiliate managers in the industry. We have further extended our international reach, with the opening of Webgains Spain in June and Webgains USA in August. We are now able to run programs throughout Europe and the USA with local account management and support for each country. We will also be expanding our reach even more in 2009 by adding more networks into our roster; we'll keep you posted!
Our account management & support teams have doubled in size which is in line with our effort to provide you with outstanding customer service. Our teams are all specialists in their sectors, whose advice and guidance has helped our programs grow at an amazing rate month on month and year on year.
We have continued to listen to all our clients requests for new technology and one of our biggest success stories of '08 is our unique Coupon Management Tool, launched in February 2008. This gives Webgains clients a much easier way to distribute their coupons, reward their affiliates and monitor coupon use. The tool has been a great success for the merchants & affiliates now using it, giving them valuable insight into how coupons are used within the affiliate channel and allowing them to make informed decisions on how to best utilize this marketing tactic. With online coupons set to play a vital role in influencing customers purchasing behavior, especially in these difficult times, our tool is set to help Webgains make the most of this growing demand. 2009 - A challenging year ahead
Huge challenges lie up ahead in 2009 for all involved in affiliate marketing. The current financial instability will push merchants to re-evaluate their online marketing spend, putting more onus on measured effectiveness and accountability. The affiliate channel is the perfect answer for merchants looking to efficiently utilize their budgets, as it's one of the lower risk marketing channels. We anticipate that the affiliate industry will become even more competitive meaning your program needs to stand out even further.
In the UK, Webgains has also been instrumental in helping form the IAB Affiliate Marketing Council's Code of Best Practice for online coupon codes. To come into effect on 1st January 2009, the Code has been created in response to the growing need for stricter guidelines. Webgains is a signatory to the code of conduct and will monitor our affiliate sites to ensure they comply with these guidelines. In the US, we are working diligently to help an independent third party create a council that can replicate the same best practices guidelines. This organization will have Webgains full support. To ensure that the affiliate industry continues to attract the budgets of advertisers in the US, we need have this in place. There is no place for rogue affiliates, fraud, spyware or other parasites, that tarnish the industry reputation. The affiliates drive the industry, and with their support, we can work together to improve its image and make it thrive.
2009 will be another year of development for Webgains. We have always been a technology driven company, in addition to our customer service, and we have various upgrades, enhancements and new functionality to our system lined up for release in 2009.
