I can see the warning drop down box ...

"G'Day, mate, Crocidile Dundee has put your spam on the "Barbie."

Mattel might take exception though ... but just think of the Barbie Doll
kits they could sell. Barbie dressed in a firefighter suit, standing on a map
of Australia with a brick wall all around it.

Ululu has spoken ... send you spam to Washington D.C., USA.

Google doesn't block websites. They may not list a website and they allow you to filter search results but that's a far cry from "blocking" a site. Google is not the Internet. You can always type the URL into your browser or bookmark the site.

What Australia is looking to do is actual censorship. Australian surfers will not be able to reach a censored site by any normal means, and since there doesn't appear to be any oversight, the system could easily be manipulated and become a means of controlling all content.

    Censorship, bad. Free speech, good.

    Google DOES TOO BLOCK WEBSITES

    Here is a example

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=abananax&aq=f&oq=
Google abananax ( if you wonder why i know this weirdo name .. its a guild i use to be on for a MMO game )

At the bottom it will tell u the following

"In response to a legal request submitted to Google, we have removed 1 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read more about the request at ChillingEffects.org. "

There isnt a big difference here ... AU is censoring stuff that XYZ people dont like.... Google is censoring stuff that XYZ people dont like ....

mandatory Internet filter that would block at least 1,300 Web sites prohibited by the government mostly child pornography, excessive violence, instructions in crime or drug use and advocacy of terrorism

You know what? I'm not too upset about this. I wish they could find a way to have parents turn this on rather than the State controlling it but with predators out there maybe I could stand a slightly slower response time to safeguard children. The real question is who is deciding which sites fit in those categories. Wouldn't want to see an internet version of the Hayes office.

Use your brain? And possibly other search engines, Google isn't the only game in town. And perhaps a dictionary so that you might better understand the difference between blocking, filtering and ignorance (of a sites address). And while you're there, you may also want to look up censorship. Unless of course Google has blocked the online dictionaries.

I would be. As abhorrent as I find some of these sites, I would be more upset about the government deciding what information I should have access to. The problem with any kind of censorship is that those censoring assume that they know what's better for you. Where does it stop? Eventually literary works and works of art would also be censored because they don't fit the standard of the censors. Free speech would go by the wayside and you would lose your right to protest.

I repeat: Censorship, bad. Free speech, good.

Once again - the search i provided .. resulted in a Site being BLOCKED, FILTERED OUT, Not to been seen, Censored .. by some agency / legal request - just like what the gov in AU wants to do ..

Google isnt the only game, but its surely the biggest player in town ...

Google has received notice of a list of web sites from the Internet Watch
Foundation (web site URL) that contain child pornography. Google has removed
the related web sites from its search results.
There is a major difference between a search engine de-listing a web site and an entire country being denied access to it. Frankly if you don't understand the difference you obviously slept during 4th grade history class. WAKE UP!!

However, it is not my job to educate you and this is getting old. Believe what you will and <<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>> (damn, that was censored).

History = His Story, as you said go ahead and believe His .. Story, i'll take that nap and sleep thru that anyday. ..

Google's Reach is GLOBAL, to a GLOBAL Audience, not limited to a country ...

I do agree with the point your making about censorship - i dont like that either, but you cant discount what im saying nor can you say its not related ...

But there are still alternate ways to access the site IF you know where it is. Censorship means that even if you own the site, you would not be able to access it in a country that is censoring it. Again ... you may may want to consult one of the many dictionaries available.

And please, if you ever want me to take you seriously again, never, I repeat never use a sophomoric phrase like this again:
