    Humbug! Scroogle?

I noticed scroogle.org as a referrer in the logs this morning so I checked it out. It's a Google scraper that provides the search results only without ads or anything else. Very ugly site but fast searches. They purport to provide searches without cookies and the Google (big brother) privacy invasion into your search habits.

Are we suppose to depend on natural search to find what we want?

You can still find what you want, but you have to wade through everything Google wants you to see first...

Apparently G doesn't mind. The site is well indexed. Scroogle plugins sort of bother me though. I wonder what other cookies they might block?

When I read the subject header I thought this was a joke; now I'm curious and might try it.

That surprises me... there was an adult search engine about 5 years ago called Booble that used the same motif of the Google-esq logo and name and Google them for copyright infringement (I think it was that reason, could be slightly off in my memory).

Surprises me too. Maybe G just hasn't gotten around to them yet.

Hmm, maybe these guys are REALLY in the porn business and Scroogle serves mainly to drive unsuspecting traffic to the other one...

Mp3gle is another Google knock-off site I have seen. I wonder how these sites get away with this? I mean, they are obviously copying off of Google's theme and logo. They might have permission or mabe Google just doesen't care, although both of these scenarios seem highly unlikely. Mabe it is just a matter of time until G totally de-indexes them.

It creates a real problem for Google PPC campaigns though...
