I have web based mail and a DSL hook up.

I frequently see something like what is below. Is someone using my mail or somehow my computer to send spam? What is this?

It is probably someone spoofing your email address onto their bulk spam mail. That way you get the complaints and they get the orders.

If you check the source code of the email, you ought to be able to tell tha domain and which servers it came through. Get the contact for their isp through Whois records and write to them about the spamming. You ought to be able to get them shut down.

If you get the actual email returned to you, check it for any urls and write to that isp also. If they are part of an affiliate program, write to the AM and try and get them bounced.

    Good luck

I get these from time to time. In most cases they are because someone used your return address in an email. There is nothing you can do about that, the return address is a blank field. A lot of this type of mail is produced by viruses. Often it is spam. There is nothing you can do there. However, you should also check the headers of the return email. If your web host is using an open relay, or a spammer hacked your passwords, they could be sending email from your address.

In most cases it is a forged return address.

    sound thinking
