I setup foxserv to try my hand at web development.....PHP. But I am having a problem. I can not for the life of me get ssi to work properly. I want to be able to use SSI statments in .htm and .html files for menus, headers and footers. Funny thing is I had it working a few weeks ago on an old computer but I upgraded my PC and after the reinstall it's a nightmare.

Can someone please help me? Can I post my apache config file or my .htaccess file here?

    Thanks,

    Doug

Remember that if you use SSI, the extension of your pages must be *.shtml

    I'll need help, that's why i'm here

You can use ssi for html extensions if you add appropriate handler directive.

Argie: I had SSI working on .htm and .html files. That is the frustrating part. I did a reinstall after a PC upgrade and it's like a brick wall this time.

bcc: How do I add the appropriate handler directive? Is that in the http.conf file?

    Thanks,
    Doug

If it's a newer apache install it'll be in httpd.conf otherwise it'll probably be in srm.conf.

They grouped srm.conf and access.conf into the main httpd.conf (or apache.conf) file during 1.3 IIRC.

Doug, hope you don't mind me posting here. I'm also setting a new server and need some help configuring webmin on Redhat ES3. I also need to setup an ftp server as this wasn't preinstalled. If anybody knows their way around servers please IM, I can't pay much but I will pay for your help. Thanks.

Doug, not sure about the web server settings but it works for me in the .htaccess file on the wwwroot directory.

Note, I am moving from parsing .html files as .shtml files to parsing .html files as .php files. More convenient in my opinion for includes. SSI includes does not allow you to include files from up a level or down a level in your directories.

Let me know if this works.

I'ld put in the conf file, you may not have .htaccess activated (don't think it is by default) and that's another bucket of worms.

More fimiliar your are with Apache the better.

    Hey Buddha,

Unfortunately, I don't think I will ever master the web server world. I count my lucky stars when my 404 redirect works!
