What's Up With The Google Ads?
Hey. I realize I am sort of new at all of this, but I am curious about something. A friend of mine called me yesterday and had been to my site. He had clicked a link on my site and had called to tell me what he "almost" bought. Then he asked why a merchant that I am an affiliate of would have Google Ads on their site. After hanging up with my friend, I went and clicked a link. Sure enough, this Ace Hardware Superstore had Google Ads on the front page. What's up with that? I send them traffic and they send that traffic to Google? I don't get it. Isn't that like against Google Ads Policy or something? Not to mention against my policy of what a good merchant I am an affiliate of would do. I realize times are tough. Why should I work my behind off to get visitors to my site and send them to a merchant's site, so the merchant can turn around and make a few cents by them then clicking a Google Ad on their site? In the process, I get carpal tunnel and they get 13 cents. I just think it totally defeats the purpose. Say I sell stone birdbaths at an average price of $100 a piece. When a potential customer arrives, I then encourage them to click a Google Ad. Hmmm. I can make $100 by selling a birdbath or I can make 21 cents by having them click a Google Ad. Hmmm. I think I will take the 21 cents. I think some people may need to go back and retake 4th grade math. That's just me though.

Hmm, I see what you mean - http://www.acehardwaresuperstore.com/

And that is a leak. But had another question. I have Ace Hardware thru Linkshare but the urls are different, the one at Linkshare is - http://www.acehardware.com/home/index.jsp Doesn't have any Adsense leaks and is the national site I guess. Anybody know what the one at SAS is, a franchise or something? They have the same logo, at least the red ACE part, but the sites are very different.

edit, I guess you can own an ace store - http://www.myace.com/

I would go with the main, national one at LS if you want that merchant. The one at SAS looks like somebody owns their own little Ace store with a website and affiliate program with Adsense leaks.

I tried with an affiliate link and the Google AdSense is still there on the front page, category pages and up to the detail pages. Stupid move for this merchant. He is sending his customers away to his own competition for a few cents and pissing off his affiliates. It's not going to last for ever.
I noticed also just under a big leak for an other hardware place, chromebolt.com
He's not the first merchant to do such crazy things. You'll find several threads regarding Shareasale merchants doing the same, stupid thing including this thread:

I also started a thread which addresses this VERY short-sighted approach:

    It's a ridiculous practice.

I love how they advertise their affiliate program right above the Google ads.

    What a bunch of jokers

Rather than being purposely ridiculous or short-sighted, I think more often than not it is simply a lack of knowledge. The merchant believes that they might as well try and make a few pennies from bounced traffic, they really have no idea how it effects their affiliate program and upsets their affiliate partners. In many cases I imagine a polite email / call from an earning / active partner would resolve the issue

    Cheers

    Thanks for the info, Trust.

I just checked my ACE links are form SAS program. The company is acehardwaresuperstore. I thought it is the official ACE store by looking at their ACE logo, guess should pay more attention to the details.

The linkshare one is the official store. I need to drop the SAS one and join the Linkshare one and switch links. Extra work.
