Which host to use besides HostGator?
I've always heard it's best to not keep all your eggs in one basket. With this in mind, I'm already a very satisfied member of HostGator, and have several sites setup with them. I'd like to know of some other hosts that you guys recommend.

Only 40 votes there, which isn't a major sampling, but that's a good list to use.

Personally I use HostICan's VPS plan, and have been quite happy with the service - I had moved some of my site from Lunarpages after a bad experience.

If you are thinking of VPS type hosting, I used futurehosting.com for a bit, they have very low prices for VPS if you watch their specials page. The hosting is like most other hosts so technically it is possible for you to use so much CPU that you affect others (i.e. I always run into MySQL cpu usage issues). For that reason I moved back to Joyent.com (not that cheap, but they do have some buy up front specials) who does Solaris hosting that can really limit your CPU use so you don't have to worry about using to many resources - instead your system would just bottleneck for you.

In addition to two accounts at HostGator, I have three of VPS units at Servint. Been with them a few years. They are not cheap, but have excellent reliability and support. My income depends on my "main" sites being online so I don't skimp on quality.

Westhost. Their VPS is the cheapest I've seen anywhere. No cPanel, but they have auto-install of many popular web apps. 24/7 U.S. support.

Since Bluehost never reimbursed me for the ugraded account they closed in DECEMBER without warning or remedy (prepaid for another year +/-), I have trouble recommending them as a second host.
