    ShareaSale error?
It's my understanding that all 1099s and W2s need to be sent out by Jan 31. The postmark on my 1099 from Shareasale shows Feb 2nd.

Is this a violation of federal law?

Look at a calendar, the 31st was on a weekend.

Yes, take them to court and spend thousands of dollars punishing them for such a terrible act of treachery.

What a waste of a thread.

As noted, the calendar explains why the actual mailing deadline was Feb. 2 this year.

In any event, my recollection (from a decade ago) is that there is no penalty whatsoever for late mailing of certain tax-reporting forms unless they are mailed after February 15.

In addition, companies which rush to meet the deadline often end up sending "corrected" versions a short time later, which can create many more problems than correct forms sent a few days late.

Sometimes people receive 'corrected' tax-reporting forms after April 15, for certain types of complex investments (certain limited partnerships, for example, which may rely on tax-reporting data from other entities, who in turn rely on data from other entities, etc., any of which may require correction). Taxpayers holding this type of investment are generally wise to exercise their right to a filing extension, rather than filing a return before April 15 and then filing an amended return later.

I wonder when Bernie Madoff's investors will receive their tax-reporting forms for 2008?
