what is the point of this...most domains aren't worth more then $100 on the open market...

    Men.com is an isolated incendent...

if domain speculation is your interest... you are in the wrong forum!

I understand that the (infamous) mixpills.com is on the market for around $1.4 million.

What's in a name if you don't have quality content to back it up?

These people who paid that kind of money, just for a name, need to take a course in business. They just threw all that money away. Not very smart.

Gotta love those banner ads at the bottom. My favorite:

    BADPUPPY
    the original temptation

    LOL

I wonder if the banner ads are any indication of the content of the future MEN.com. After all, they had the ability to edit the wording???

Darn, I should have asked Santa for a badpuppy...

Type-ins alone will bring traffic, and it is a VERY EASY name to remember; once tv, mag, and radio advertisements get started. What they do with the vistor once they get there "would be" the problem, but seeing how they have $$$$$, I'm sure they have this well planed out.

I know the new men.com owner. Beside he's a great guy, he knows what he is doing. From what I was told it's gonna be a portal for women to find men with various gateways. Wall calendar and other cool retail "real world products". Expect to see some tv, magazine and radio commercials very soon.

I'm not so sure about that statement. The Dot Com's that all failed so miserably didn't lack for money.

Most of them lacked a reason for existing!

Yeah but I think that one's in the bargain basement now. One careful owner. One not-so-careful owner.

Half an hour ago i registered answir.com free on the market place for just the basic registering fee.
To my opinion its a waste of money to spend this amount of money on a domain, without content or copy of whatsoever....
Actually, do have some thoughts if they are really internet marketing savvy, refering to
    following quote
"Ryan Levy, vice president of marketing for men.com, said the company also has purchased more than 1,000 other domain names over the past year at fire-sale prices to use in conjunction with the new portal."
Doesnt this diffuse initial branding effords??

I've been to a few sites that had really good domain names, but the owners just didn't do much with them. I guess they're hoping someone will offer them big bucks for the name, because they sure aren't doing anything to develop the site or create any traffic.
