    Proud Mom Moment
My children are off from school this week. My daughter (6th grade) is studying math for the State exam in early March. She was working on long answer problems (solve a problem then explain answer and steps taken in detail).
The question was John buys a printer and computer on sale for $562 dollars. Tax is 6%.
part 1 - How much did John have to pay?
part 2- Explain your answer in a paragraph using words.

My daughters answer begins - "Because the store is a nexus, taxes are due if John wants to buy the computer and printer. To calculate the total amount ...."

    Mellie,

    This story brightened my day!

Good for her. Her Mom is a crusader, and it looks like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Thanks for sharing, Mellie, your daughter sounds like a winner! She has a good role model, and looks like she is going to be as sharp as her Mom

Thanks. I'm still laughing over it, I can just imagine her teacher when she reads about a nexus. Both my kids are pretty well versed in this tax stuff and they even wear "Support NY Affiliate" buttons.

Smart cookies! Good for her and it must be a proud day for you!

That could make for an interesting paper or "show and tell". Though I don't think many average 6th graders will understand..
