    Hockey Trade Deadline '09!!!
Other than the Stanley Cup Playoffs, this is the most exciting time of the year for hockey fans!!!! OOOOHHHH SO EXCITED TO SEE WHO GOES WHERE!

That said, for those of you watch Hockey (I'm in Canada, so that's almost everybody), let's see what your predictions are and who'd you like to go where.

    Trades for today though:

Ryan Whitney to Anaheim for Chris Kunitz. This basically seals the deal for either Pronger or Neidermyer, so expect one or both to be gone next year. As for Kunitz, he should get a nice boost in points playing with Crosby, but then again who wouldnt (other than Miroslav Satan). Kunitz is basically there to fill the gap that Satan was supposed to fill, but couldnt live up to expectations. Hopefully for Pittsburgh's sake, Kunitz has it in him.

Also, Steve Begin was traded to Dallas for a prospect (I forget his name). Nothing special here as Begin only had 10 points in 40-some-odd games.

Let's see what else unfolds in the coming days and on trade deadline!!! Hopefully my Canucks makes a couple moves to land a scoring winger, and drops Pyatt the Pylon!

I wish the Sabres would move a player or two but they only trade away their best players for crap players or prospects.

Does it really matter? My Wings are going to win it all anyways...

I dont know about that...without solid goaltending, you cant really go too far in. Osgood is getting old and Conklin doesnt have much Playoff experience. Osgood did play pretty well last year, so there's hope for him. And yes, the Wings do have pretty stacked fwd and D line up.

I have never really been a hockey buff, went to my first game (local team) and it is pumped with action.

@DFL: Darcy is always under the radar. I actually am ALWAYS surprised on deadline day. Usually, if you read about a Sabres trade ahead of time, it doesn't happen.

Then he sneaks somebody in while we're sleeping.

Submitted for your approval, Darcy's list of deals that astounded me:

    • Chris Gratton for Danny Briere (and a pick that became Roy or Vanek I think)
    • Beauregard (Or Ruutu, depending on how you read it) for Hasek.
    • Mike Wilson for Rhett Warrener.
    • Novotny for Zubrius (wish we still had Danius)
His trades never come into question, in my mind. It's what he does once they get here that needs work

I would expect both Max and Tim to remain Sabres this year. You might be surprised as to who won't be.

But... Campell for Rivet looks nicer

Biron was just a bad situation.

    Max... well, yeah.

    new to the rumor mill:

-boston is apparently very interested in getting pronger from anaheim. Not sure what they'd give up (reportedly kessel), but it goes back to my above post where the ducks picked up whitney from the pens, giving way to a trade for either pronger or neidermeyer. this may be the outcome of the whtney/kunitz trade.

    - mathieu dandenault apparently wants out of montreal and has asked bob gainey for a trade. we'll see if this comes to fruiton.

    - islanders are blowing up big time, and their solution, get rid of everyone! rumor has it they're willing to part with guerin, weight, hilbert, mcammond (who they just got from the sens), witt, and martinek!

    - out here in vancouver, contract talks between the canucks and mattias ohlund have stopped. that basically means that ohlund will likely be on his way out of the nux line up. we'd be losing one the hardest working, underrated d-men in the league if this is true. furthermore, we'd be losing one of the longest serving canucks. this year, we've lost canuck-veterans like trevor linden, markus naslund, and brenden morrison

-brian burke in toronto is obviously unhappy with the current make up of the team, so i wouldnt be surprised if there are a lot of ppl moved out of the maple leafs dressing room. in typical burke fashion, expect to lose veterans and gain tons of draft picks and prospects. guys likey on their way out include kaberle, blake, toskala, and maybe even antropov

Not sure I'd move Toskala if I were the Leafs. Not that impressed with Poggee.

Yah, but burke consistently beats on toskala for his play. he even went on the record a few weeks ago saying he wasnt #1 goalie material.

Guerin and Kuba reportedly willing to waive their no-trade clauses.

Rumour has it Guerin is likely to go to washington, while Kuba cant be determined now, although there are a number of teams looking for a puck-moving d-man...

well traditionally there arent any real block busters until the trade deadline. the only shocker to me so far was the whitney/kunitz trade.

well we're only one sleep away before the madness ensues! ***Gitty with excitement, lol.

    Predictions:
    Big time sellers will be:
    -Islanders
    -Maple Laughs
    -Anaheim Ducks
    -Phoenix
    -Nashville
    -Maybe even Ottawa :O

Teams that will go for broke:
    -Boston
    -Montreal
    -Pittsburgh

I think the looming potential salary cap reduction will sway a lot of teams from making blockbusters intended to anything aside from helping their current year's playoff hopes.

You don;t have to look any further than the mess Philly is in right now to see to potential side effects of say bringing in a Bouwmeester with the intent to sign him over the summer.

Rentals will move tomorrow. Not sure too much else will.

But hay, I've been wrong before.

3.5 hours left and it begins...

The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded goalie Pascal Leclaire to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forward Antoine Vermette.

yeah, i'd have to say i'm a lil disappointed with this year's start. the only notable trade that has any merit is the vermette/leclaire trade...other than that, nothing even minor, except the pick up of a few off the waiver wire.

thing is tho, trades do have to be approved by the league before they can be announced so maybe there are a few pending.

i heard a rumour the canucks can get boumesster and booth from florida for pyatt, raymond, and beiksa. i'd hate to lose beiksa, but nonetheless, i would do that trade in a heartbear and hope it comes true.
