Does SSL really improve conversions?

For leadgen, not tangible retail or e-products.
For a site capturing loan modification/foreclosure leads, debt, and insurance leads does this really increase conversions? None of these ask for a social security number...the most personal thing that gets asked for a person's name and address.
Think buying an SSL cert would really increase conversions, and do surfers really care if it's Verisign?

Personally, I would say NO.
If you are into LedGEN, try the McAfee or something similiar to that.
Also if you do a lot in ledGEN, the BBB seal should have a much bigger punch than a SSL. Show something like a logo or seal by BBB, McAfee Secure, etc will help hands down
