    I have a short list of questions that I typically send to a merchant before I sign up for their program. My goals are

    1) to find out if they actually respond to affiliates

    2) and to receive responses to the questions.


    Here is my current list:

    1) Can you provide a datafeed?

    2) Do you offer phone tracking?

    3) Do you pay me for repeat customers that come through my site?

    4) Do you allow parasite software companies into your affiliate program?

    5) Do you have a fulltime affiliate manager?



    Most of the other info I comsider is typically in their agreement or the merchant info area. Unless the program/offer(ings) are unique in nature, 2 strikes on the above list and I don't mess with the program. Number 5 holds some weight to me but not as much as the others.

    So, what I'm seeking is some help refining the questions. Any ideas on additional questions or changes in the current questions would be helpful.

    p.s. question 4 is fuzzy i think and the responses to it surprise me...perhaps it is not clear to some merchants and I need to . Here is a recent reply received from a company running a sporting goods site:

    "Your answer is yes to all except question #2."

    You won't get phone orders from Linkshare affiliates...Or repeat customers.

    How about questions like..

    What's your average order size $ amount?
    What is click/order ratio?
    What is your return policy?

    (What's a fulfillment manager? Do yo mean an affiliate manager?

    I believe it's up to the program (CJ, Linkshare. B-Free) to handle the parasites, not the merchant..

    And if you blast off for 2 wrong ansers, you sure aren't using much bandwidth for affiliates!!

    Actually it's up to the merchant, there are some parasite free ones in all networks.

    Conversions stats are a given so if basic data is not included in the networks area for the merchant they get asked.


    Fulfillment manager? Not sure what you are talking about there....never mentioned that.


    There are plenty of merchants to choose from. In the past we have focused in lead generation in the auto business but my list above has served us well as we develop niche sites.

    And, imo, keeping the bugs out of a program is a job for the merchant (and/or AM's)..not the networks.
