I'm sure this will be very popular if Google goes through with it. With the restrictions merchants are placing on E-mail offers, this might be a safe way to get E-mail ads in front of people so they can't say they never opted in to receive them.

I'm betting within a year Google will become a portal like Yahoo. Search, free email, they own Blogger, i see a place to login into your Blogger account on the Google home page, news, sports etc, full fledged portal.

Folks, I may be somewhat narrow minded on the idea of free email (from Hotmail, Yahoo, and now Google) but does anyone see the addition of free email from Google as just another avenue for spammers? I get so much crap mail from Hotmail and Yahoo patrons that I elected to automatically delete everything that comes in from those servers. That has sure cut down on the spam I'm getting. Will I need to add Google to auto-delete filter?

    Interested in your thoughts.

free email is a good alternative if you switch ISP's or travel quite a bit.. since it's web based you can have the same email address for years no matter how many times you change ISP.

I've had my yahoo address since like 1998 and I don't even get spam on it.. pretty damn good filters they're running :P

I think Google is going to offer free emails with a lot of free features like spam filters and Pop access. Then when you go to email to read, they will serve you ads on the site just like using Google Search right now. Very smart of them. Knowing Google, they will make it with the user in mind.

Blogger used to be subscription based, but after Google bought it they made it free so that they can server their ads.

    Thank you,

Since the can of spam law went live, I get almost no spam to my Hotmail accounts (3 total).

Was getting 100+ a week on each.. now 3-4 only.

Something happened at MSN to stop the junk.. I certainly didn't do it.
