Just thinking about potential Artificial Intelligence & Sites
Okay, I admit I was fooled by Gmail Autopilot

The allusion to the Eliza computer program just made me think of the Alicebot engine and AIML (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language) and a possible potential use by the affiliate webmaster.
These are freely available under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
AIML: Artificial Intelligence Markup Language AIML (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language) is an XML-compliant language that's easy to learn, and makes it possible for you to begin customizing an Alicebot or creating one from scratch within minutes.

    Hey Rhia,

Is there a way to contact you directly? Unfortunately this website prevents me from sending direct PMs, and I can't seem to find you on twitter. This is with regards to your post above...

    Thanks,
    Conan

How would you envision integrating something like ALICE into a site?

    I've thought about it.

I've thought about creating something that would be a splice between a FAQ and something more interactive like a conversation: something that could possibly make the user feel as if he or she is experiencing a unique conversation.

I wouldn't put ALICE all over the site; it would be in a special section on a special page.

I wouldn't bother paying for something like "Site Pal" -- I feel the visitor who would want to interact with an artificial intelligence created by the webmaster is looking for a unique path in "conversation."

I don't think people are looking for one of those "canned" "Site Pal Figures" who just state a one sided string of words when the page first loads.

Good thoughts, Rhea. Thanks. I like the idea of a sort of ultra-smart search through FAQ-type stuff.

It'll be interesting to see what others post here.

I've been the AI community for a long time (currently an AAAI member), and I agree there are a million applications for this sort of stuff that haven't been implemented yet.

I had an interesting book on artificial human intelligence and artistic (primarily 3D) modeling but unfortunately that was one of my books that was tossed when I went into a panic cleaning mode after seeing a bug on the wall back in October.

In the back of my mind I remember seeing a related url to a page/site that explained how to program a conversation similar to an ALICE conversation that could be used for FAQs and for a limited conversation [limited to the webmaster's ability to program such a conversation]. I thought that was a good idea.
[My post #8 is not the same as this post I am thinking of]

    Deduce
"Deduce is an artificial intelligence program that performs logical deduction on input you provide it."

    http://deduce.sourceforge.net/whatis.html

A webmaster might be able to create a spliced FAQ/Conversation with Deduce.

I envision the use of Deduce in a practical and logical structure/format.

Some users are intimidated and bored by pages and pages of FAQs, so a program that would let them pinpoint their interests might enhance the user experience -- I haven't tried it but I believe there are creative uses for "artificial intelligence applications."

    Pandorabots
I think I might have been thinking about the uses of Pandorabots.
    http://www.pandorabots.com/botmaster/en/faq

B.1. How can I put my Pandorabot on my own web page?

Pandorabots is a bot hosting service and the bot must be published at Pandorabots.com. However, you can embed a Pandorabot within a frame on your webpage. Create an html frameset containing a frame with:

    <frame src="http://www.pandorabots.com/pandora/talk?botid=....">

If you don't need the published page to be embedded within one of your own pages, you can still upload customized HTML to change the appearance of the bot's published page ...

    http://www.pandorabots.com/botmaster/en/faq
Some users want to have conversations with me about certain topics found in my website[s]; the conversations often repeat themselves even among various users -- if a "bot with knowledge" could be embedded within a page in a popular section that might achieve 2 things:
    (a) Save me from repetitive chats
    (b) Give the user a sense of a "chat" and satisfy a certain amount of questions/need or want for certain knowledge in an interactive format

Pandorabots seem to have the ability to ramble more than what would be produced with the Deduce program.
Pandorabots seem to be more conversational.

be careful Rhia7. once the site becomes self-aware it won't let you touch it again.

been there - done that....not pretty

I started thinking about this being on the computer screen, but most likely our online experience will soon be virtual with an entirely new way of interacting with digital content and AI.

Well, there are a zillion potential AI based applications that can be utilized. I'm particularly interested in this direction (from various professional and educational reasons).
