I am working on a spread sheet and I have created a blank column on the left hand side. (Column A)

I have data in column B.

I want to number each cell in column A in order so it goes like this:

    1
    -
    2
    -
    3
    -
and so on. (the - represents the border of the cell)

Is there I way I can select the Column A and have excel automatically place those numbers down the column, or am I looking at hand typing them all in?

Type in a few, excel will recognize your "pattern" and you can drag the results down.

    1) type in the first 3 -5 numbers
    2) place mouse pointer on lower right hand corner of cell - it will turn to a "+"
    3) drag the cell down and it wil number subssequently all the way down....

There is another way of doing it but i don't remember
