    Hi,

I hope someone here has some suggestions.

I have been getting tons of Returned/Bounced mail messages for email I have never sent.

I picked apart the headers and what someone is doing is making up a name and putting it in front of the @ in my domain name. For example elivan214334@mydomain.com

Then they are spamming email addresses. All the bad emails they are using are bouncing back into my main email account.

What can I do to stop this?

I have reported each person to the ISP of the orginating email addresses (most are in Switzerland), but I want this crap out of my email box.

I get about 50 every couple minutes.

I don't have any specific steps to offer. This is happening again to me. The previous sobig spam resulted in many thousands of spam messages with my name on it.

What you can do to help is to email the Attorney General of NY who has filed suit against Optinrealbig.com and encourage him to continue his suit. This is not to say that this party is guilty of using your address, but forged addresses is one of the charges against them.

Victory in this suit won't end the problem but it will put a dent in it.

Oh my goodness, someone has been doing this to me too, using my server. They are in China. So being the nice person I am, I wrote a nice letter, translated it into chinese and sent it to them. Now, instead of using misc names @ my domain, they are now using Anne@mydoman. What asses. They are in China, not sure what I can do, as the CAN-SPam would not apply. Thankfully most of their emails are in chinese.

Yep, they've been doing it to me also. From China also. I grabbed the website they were promoting and emailed their hosting company, their providers everyone I could think of and it went away for about a week, then it started up again. It seems I get at least 200 bounces each day from tons of randomcharacters@mydomain.com

Most of the bounces are from AOL, I called AOL and talked with them to make sure they weren't rejecting email from my domain.

Just to add, if all the bounces have the same heading or same type of bounce like 550 or user not found, and you use cpanel, you can always add a filter to your domain to delete those messages before you even see them.

The large percent of mine are all AOL bounces too!

My hosts have catch-all enabled on my email account. I think I am going to call and see if they can disable it and see if that helps.

    Big mistake.

NEVER MAIL A SPAMMER. All it does is give them a legitimate email address to abuse.

Prior to your mailing, you could have set up your SMTP server to only accept mail for anne@yourdomain, and to trach anything else.

    Now, anne@yourdomain is poisoned. :^(

I turned off the catch-all email and I haven't had any of that junk in the past 10 minutes.

    So far so good.

Luckily they are using a misspelled version of my name that I would never use :0) Good thing they are Chinese and can't spell in English, even copying

I couldn't agree more. It is not only a waste of time, but it makes the problem worse!
Spammers are like the pond scum....
Very difficult to get rid of them as they keep inventing new ways of getting to our mailboxes...
