47 years old. Amazing how someone can get to be that age with a voice like that and not be a professional singer.
There probably are many people just like her. People who can sing but who just don't get the chance (or even want the chance for stardom)

Yes a great singing voice. Good for her and hope she makes it, but probably already did, with a nice $ contract.

I read about here but never got the chance to see the youtube until here on this forum. Great voice for a 47. It just goes to prove the saying "never judge a book by its cover".

She is an amazing singer and a huge inspiration however, all the hype and viral crap around her turned me off weeks ago. The vultures descended and started marketing her for their own gain. Pathetic.

I love that she has such a huge fan base and that a lot of it has been gained by Internet viral effect. Just can't deal with the people who are jumping on her bandwagon to make a buck. *Some* marketers have zero class.

I have a different view on this whole thing. Sure, she has a great voice, but I think she is getting an extra attention because of the way she looks. There are so many struggling Broadway actors/actress who can sing much better than her, but have not had any chances because they don't have the "it" factor.

The "it" factor is what makes stars. There are plenty of people who can sing but not many who can wow a crowd or draw an emotional connection from an audience. Likewise, there are plenty of people with business degrees who have no clue or desire how to cater to customers. It's all about charisma in the entertainment industry and customer service in business.

Not everyone can be a star - that's why *star makers* learn to recognize the "it" factor and can turn an average looking person into a huge movie star because they happen to have "it."

Susan Boyle made an impact because she looked like sh!t but STILL wowed the judges and the audience - not just wiht her amazing voice but with a charisma and attitude that touched and drew in millions of people. She was *born to perform* and it came across. That is, in essence, what shows like Britain's Got Talent" and American Idol are all about. The "average" performer can get up and show what they've got and if they've got "it" they get it. :-)

Without the "it" factor, there is no star.

No she didn't. She looked like an average person trying to make it in this world. She has become so popular because people can relate to her. She looked perfectly fine

Agree Julian. Can't speak for Rexanne but think what she was sayin is that she wasn't the real glamorous type (Jessica Simpson or any of the others)

May be wrong but I think most people like Julian said could relate to her cos she was soooooo down to earth. Least I know for myself, I always want somebody who may not fit into the glamorous model type stereotype to do well. Maybe it's the root for the under dog theory or somethin?

Agree with ayakobing too tho. There are a whole lotta people out there probably waaaaay more talented but nobody will ever know who they are cos they don't have the "it" factor like Rexanne said. People like to feel a connection to people and if somebody just doesn't have that "it" can be the most talented person in the world maybe but won't matter much if others don't like or make a big fuss over em. Makin a big fuss is what makes somebody a star and they have to have that special somethin.

I love Susan Boyle and am a fan of hers at FB but hate all the bandwagon jumpers, too. Hope she'll stay the same and not let it all go to her head. (don't think that'll happen)

Thank you Purplebear! That was indeed what I was going for, not trying to imply that Susan Boyle was a hideous beast.

And that even a fantastic singer won't make it with or without looking glamorous and beautiful without a charismatic essence. Getting "discovered" is almost easy for someone who looks gorgeous, very hard if someone isn't unusually gifted in the looks department. That's what makes Susan Boyle's story so appealing.

And what brings the vultures out to take advantage of a story that touched people's hearts as this one did.

Susan Boyle sings The Way We Were at 1984...

Now I can't believe that she haven't been kissed, before!

Found prove evidence of kiss: Susan Boyle's 1995 audition for My Kind of People - and kiss with Michael Barrymore
