I have just been solicited by a company called Innovation Ads (Precise Pop). www.innovationads.com, www.precisepop.com.
They told me they are contextual marketing platform. yet when I went to thier FAQ it says
"Unlike other contextual networks PrecisePOP is NOT distributed via shareware or forced upon users in order to receive free services. We have distributed this technology through ActiveX pops and partner sites that host the download as an “added value”. Our product is promoted as a shopping aid so that users feel like they are getting special deals only for them. You can download the product for yourself by clicking here(I removed the link - didnt want anyone to accidentally download).

Basically it sounds to me like a stealth download like gator was doing.

    Anyone here anything about this?

    Thanks

Another 180Solutions/ncase drive-by install clone with more to follow. Is hawking your wares to merchants customers at the point of sale going to be enough. What's next for the contextual Ad wanks? Scraping off the credit card, e-mail addies and privacy info for sale to their IAB/DMA butt buddies from their trojan horse browser hijacker. These wanks brag 10 million hijack attemps per month as they get on a roll.

They even hijack traffic at it's source... Notice the popup over the Google listing for the FTC's holiday shopping guide to alert shoppers to online con men.

You dont find it particulary interesting that they blatantly say they have no opt-in policy "We have distributed this technology through ActiveX pops and partner sites that host the download as an “added value”. "

That has always been WhenU's and Gator's defense in terms of marketing - meaning, who are you (affiliate, competitor) to complain about when we serve ads, our users have opted in to recieve these ads. This is the point they make on all thier collateral and FAQ's to prove they are consumer friendly.

You are exactly right in saying they are like n-case.

    Isn't Dentalplans a trusted merchant?

They tell everyone here how much they are against parasites, but using them anyway.
UGH! Trusted doesn't mean trusted anymore!

Hi noyb, I had NO IDEA this 'pop' campaign was of this nature when we launched it last Thurday, I was under the impression that these were pop-unders being served and not contextual ads, which I despise!! The campaign rans for 4 days total and was cancelled due to total lack of conversions (so I knew there was something fishy going on with it). I gave that glowing testimonial after running a text link on the Bonzi.com homepage for a long time successfully. Again, I had no clue that this pop and banner campaign as they called it was contextual in nature.
