Speaking as a pilot and an affiliate, this will be interesting to follow. I would like to find a couple of good aviation-type merchants. Good Luck.
Welcome to ABW. You should be able to find a lot of answers right here.
First question - why are you posting in the Commission Junction forum. I would suggest looking at ShareASale and/or Buy.at as possible networks.

You might want to contact the affiliate networks and let then do some of the education work for you.
Here are the Top networks:
CJ (Commission Junction)
GAN (Google Affiliate Network was purchased by the big G. a few months ago)
Smaller but fits nicely for some:
You can always change networks. Make you own plans/goals and revise as you get started and lean more.
PS: Also there are many good affiliate managers here. You might want to ask for a quick tutorial from one of them for a little fee. "Post" you needs and some might offer their services.

Your best bet is to go with a network that can provide you with an account manager for support and training for a reasonable cost OR an affiliate management company like AMWSO or alike.

As others mention, ABW is a wonderful resource, but it requires an investment of time -- spend several hours reading through sections like the "merchant best practices" forum here.
I've posted a somewhat lengthy outline of issues merchants face when considering a new affiliate program -- see the "affiliate advice for merchants" link in my signature.

It ain't easy A LOT of work, lot of time, lot of patience, as I am finding out. Advice Haiko gave me, read, interact, run ethical program (treat others as you would want to be treated). It is full time. As mentioned there are some very good managers available to run program, or you can do yourself as you will find members here being very helpful.
Best of luck

Contact me at email@example.com as I may be interested in taking on your program on a pure rev share basis. Aviation has always been a passion of mine and I have been out of it for a while. Would like to find an aviation based program to get back to that passion.

BEST offer you will ever get. A professional OPM with a passion for your product, willing to "put his money where his mouth is" with a compensation on performance offer.
(Chuck like travel? - please take my job away. )
