Where to find stats on online shopping?
This may be a dumb question, or I'm missing the obvious.. have been browsing through internetretailer.com & related sites.

I'm putting together info for a pal of mine on affiliate marketing (I'm looking for help on a couple of expansion sites that have been orphaned).

While I know my own niche very well, I would like to say something along the lines of "consumers spent $xxx on gourmet food & gifts last year"

Anyone know where I could find some close approximation?? I realize it's a very sweeping statement, I'm just trying to make a point

    Thanks!

That's where I've been looking.. I can't seem to find the general number on total spend..

Also plan to buy the Top 500 Guide, looks very interesting.

I'm just looking for an approx number for gourmet food & gifts...

I don't think anyone knows the true internet total spend on a specific industry - would be a guestimate. For that there are "research" papers that cost $'s. Sometime the industry's trade organization has rough idea. I.R. however does give specific volumes of the big boys. IMO - if you add the big boy figures up - you can pretty well guess that the number represents the lion share of market.

Thanks for the tip.. it's not as easy to find as I thought..

I'm used to seeing monthly consumer spending stats published by the govt (used for economic analysis), just thought online numbers were available. I'll make an assumption, probly as good a number as any!

Thanks.. nice to know I wasn't being dumb

    Thanks Haiko, big help!

I'm trying to entice a friend to help me expand my sites - I have an orphaned gourmet site that just needs some TLC (Tender Loving Content!).

I used total spend to make my point.
