Some of the MarketLeverage crew will be heading to Affiliate Convention in Denver next month. Anyone else planning on going? I know passes are free!

I've got too much going on to fly to Denver for three or four days. So, unfortunately, I'm going to miss the inaugural Affiliate Conference event. (But I'm also going to miss the August AffSum this year, too)

If you check the fine print, passes are "free" (for affiliates) with very specific conditions.

I think that the "Affiliate Convention" is going to be a great event. Denver is an awesome city. There will be a lot of really great people at this event. If you can make it get to Denver June 18-19 for the event. If you can come early there is a golf tourney on the 17th and a bunch of us are hanging around through the weekend.

This sounds like a great opp for merchants. I have already schedule too much time away this summer. The family will lynch me if I schedule anymore.

    Over 500 people registered
Around 500 people registered as of today and maybe 750 attending when it is all said and done. The event is going to be pretty small, but it just takes one good relationship to make it all worth while.

I really hope more people support this event it is the first one. Anyway the event is what you make of it.

That's pretty surprising, I heard between 6-1200. We're going to have a box at the Rockies game, a private table at Monarck, and some other great networking events. You can also win VIP treatment at Affiliate Convention starting tomorrow! DM me for details

Nothing wrong with a small convention. My favorite small convention is the ShareASale Think Tank. There's a big difference, though. The attendees at the ShareASale Think Tank are handpicked and are generally the cream of the crop in the industry.

I read NickyCake's site (interesting find, Adam!) and I think he makes some very valid points. With no barrier to entry, the caliber of affiliates there will be considerably lower. Only 70% targeting English-speaking audiences? Only 60% of attendees from North America? It's hard to tell from the site, but it sounds like this conference is piggybacked on previous gaming, dating, and adult affiliate conferences. I suspect that many attendees will be far from the mainstream. Just looking at the list of exhibitors, it's largely a "who's who of spammers and sleazy CPA networks". Many of their speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors are not known for their ethical stands.

Will this be a viable conference? With affiliates free, they're going to have to rely on sponsors and non-affiliates to fund the event. It looks like most of their sponsorships are still unsold two weeks before the event.

Are any large, mainstream affiliates even going to be there? The dates conflict with the LinkShare Symposium, so I suspect many (like me) will be in New York instead.

Best of luck to those who attend. I hope it's not a total waste of your time. I'll stick with Affiliate Summit.

If the Affiliate Convention pulls all the CPA networks, spammers and black hats away from the Affiliate Summit then I support it. My money is on the New York summit!

I am attending Affiliate Convention. OK, I won the contest for free airfare and hotel which locked in my decision. I am not a spammer or a black hat. I see several speakers that are well respected in the industry and some that I am not so sure about. I go with an open mind and am excited to be part of the first Affiliate Convention!

The concept of affiliates free is a good idea but I think it might better be implemented as affiliates at a reduced rate. I suspect that with a free sign up, some will sign up and not actually attend. A reasonable price of $100 to $300 for sole proprietors might really be a great idea for conferences to pull in more affiliates.

Same here...can't miss this event in my back yard. I've been wanting to go to a conference for some time, but was alway concerned about wasting precious time. This seems like a perfect event for me.

The list of speakers, vendors and networks is a bit new to me but hey this business is all about learning some more...

The weather is particularly nice in Denver lately, not too cold and not too hot...with just the right amount of moisture.

There is a TON of affiliate action in the Denver. I think that there are going to be lots very talented industries professionals at this event. Get ready for a great convention. If you can make this convention do what ever you can to show up. If you are really serious about your financial freedom and winning in the affiliate game don't miss this event.

Affiliate convention pre-event party is at a strip club. is this typical of affiliate marketing conventions? Seems to be a lack of class there. Ironic that convention is supposed to benefit missing and exploited children...

I think you have it mixed up with another Affiliate Convention, a Google search comes up with the Casino Affiliate Convention benefiting missing and exploited children.

On their Faq page it says:
Affiliate Convention is proud to sponsor the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). Programs like the NCMEC helped find 15 year old Elizabeth Smart on March 12, 2003 after 9 months of being missing. Please take a moment to view the pictures and report if you have seen them.

But all that means is they are showing the script that shows missing children. Doesn't mean they are giving any money or donations.

And under the agenda it does show an "adult" type party.

A "night of eye candy" party doesn't surprise me.

Originally, I had considered attending this convention. The more I see about it, the more relieved I am that I decided not to.

I can understand those willing to try it out for no cost (locals, contest winners) but I have serious doubts that even they will find value. For those who would have to pay for airfare and hotel (and perhaps even the conference), I just can't imagine it being worthwhile.

I think that despite the location of parties and some of the less...family friendly niches, there will be some great networking value at the show. There's quite a few all-star speakers, and some great side events going on if strip clubs aren't your thing. If you're interested in some alternatives, let me know!

I won't be attending. Not because of the strip bar, but that would have certainly been the nail in the coffin if I were considering it.

Not sure I will be going to this pre-show party. Frankly I've never been in that neighborhood since I live in Denver, I swear ;-) .
I will leave it up to my single co-worker to decide if he wants to go. The way I see it, life is short might as well discover things you are not familiar with and observe some fellow human behaviors (a piece of Americana...).

Unless I'm missing something here, this club seems to have ladies well into their 20s maybe some in their mid-40s... I don't think their is any kind of child abuse. Plus it's got some pool tables just in case this turns out to be awkward.

Additionally this Marcia Brazil lady, was born in Brazil and lived in France. Just like me...we will have some topics of conversion ;-)

I was going to go but found airfare to Denver to be high ($500-600).

I have to say I was very impressed with the inaugural Affiliate Convention. It was well organized, many of the speakers were excellent, and the welcoming and appreciation for affiliates was fantastic. Because of the free admission for affiliates, there were many newbies and it was impressive how the old timers freely offered advice and education.

The only thing lacking, IMO, was presence by the major networks. I would like to see them attend the next one along with more merchants. I was impressed with participation from eBay Partner Network and Yahoo.

Very well done. I've hesitated to go to shows for years (afraid of wasting time/money). This was in my neighborhood so I had to go and I do not regret it. I would recommend it (especially the free part for affiliates). I'm not sure about all the naked ladies in the "background". Not for me (I'm French so I'm not easily offended by nakedness) but some people seem to think it makes the event appear a little less professional...and maybe the few affiliate ladies present would have preferred naked men too ...I donít know... ;-)

Being my first conference, I've come back with many new ideas (nearly too many). Not sure I will have time to try any of them. In any case, it's good to see this industry is well and alive. I can see what some are saying about a certain "spamminess" attribute. I do not know about other conferences but certainly a little more explanations might have been appropriate to give to the many newbies. But again, that might be a marketing technique to make it more exciting for the people just starting in this field.

It was a pleasure, getting out of my home office, to meeting dozens of other fellow affiliates (most of whom were locals and some I expect to see again), a lot of very optimistic newbies, some super affiliates and even a few geniuses. On a scale of 1 to 5, I would give this event a "Loved it!".

PS: I've meet 2 members of the board CathyM and Evan W (not sure he is an active member here). In case you come across this post: "Nice spending some time and talking with both of you."
