    Inventory Status Values in datafeeds
I thought it might be useful to others if I shared this data about the values included in the "inventory status" or "availability" columns in datafeeds from ShareASale and AvantLink.

Looking at my current test database of about 2.5 million products from 600+ merchants (currently ShareASale and Avantlink only), here is what I find in the column dedicated to "availability" or "inventory status" -- 73% are clearly designated as being "in stock" (which of course might not be true), while 25% have no clear designation of inventory status. I found a total of 61 distinct values in this field.

I am interpreting the following values to mean "in stock" (1,882,934 = 73%)

I may be wrong but those 2 fields are not used by my setup. I don't find that feeds are updated often enough to worry with trying to have super current info other than price. I'm open to change though.

Post 2000 here. Feels like a minor milestone.

An "instock" value doesn't really mean much for many merchants (who gladly list everything as "in stock" when it isn't, or fail to update their datafeeds). But the "out of stock" designation is significant and should probably be used to exclude products we know the merchant doesn't have (we don't get paid for distracting and disappointing our visitors).

    Congratulations on #2000.

It's also important to exclude zero-price products, along with "absurdly-low-priced" products.

I thought my script automatically excluded zero-price items, but this evening I noticed that there are zero-price items in my database, as well as items priced at $0.01 to $0.05, none of which seem to be valid.

I just ran a SQL DELETE query against my entire 2.5-million-record database, to delete all items with a price below $0.06; the result was removal of another 12,305 items.
