Has anyone ever submitted an affiliate site for inclusion in the Yahoo directory and been accepted after paying the $299?

I thought many years ago they did not allow affiliate sites in their driectory (besides those sites that expired and were bought and then turned into a aff site)

I'm not sure they are even worth trying for $299 and no guarantee but I saw a aff site in their directory that was not an expired name and I'm wondering if they are letting any site that is willing to pay for it.

I would wait a couple of months until after the switch before doing anything. They let affiliate sites in the directory, dmoz is the one wheres its a little harder.

My traffic from my sole Yahoo! listing is microscopically small. This week I've had exactly two hits.

I put aff sites in there long ago and got tons of traffic. Before they started using google. I would not pay for a listing now.

I like being in Yahoo even though they aren't big producers at the moment.

I don't have a paid Yahoo listing but I get about 10 hits a day from the regular Yahoo search engine.

The Yahoo search engine is just Google or Inktomi though, I get a pretty big chunk of traffic from that, around 17% at the moment.

I think about a year ago, Yahoo changed their search results. Before that Yahoo always displayed directory results before the rest of the search results. A lot of affiliates had invested quite large sums in Yahoo only to have their traffic virtually vanish overnight.

There are persistent rumours that Yahoo might drop the directory altogether. I think trade has pretty much dried up.

Yahoo doesn't even give you a PageRank boost.

Eventhough by most accounts a Yahoo Directory link is worthless I still get excited when I do get a site in.

Yes. Probably 5 or 6. I even have one marked as "cool" which used to bring a lot of traffic 2-3 years ago.

I just got one in about a month ago. I just submitted another yesterday which I think has a good shot to get in.

The sites are non-commercial hobby/content type sites. Take a look around the "New Additions" page to get a feel for what's making it in. They seem to like sites with topics that are somewhat current.

I just checked the backlinks for one of my Yahoo sites and the Yahoo link does appear in the backlinks.

Google does seem to follow links and count the backlink when the query string has the full url in the parameter string even if it goes through a click script.

I am using this forum to learn what some of the long time pros do, and don't do. As I understood the Verisign offer, in addition to getting a simpler url, I also got 36 search listings, with some like google, alta vista, hot bottom, anybody tried Verisign, or did I blow a lot more cash

Anybody who can tell me how to get my sites into Hot Bottom for free I'll give you some inbound links from homepages of 2 DMOZ-listed sites.

That said, How long will it be before Yahoo ascribes more "pop" to Yahoo-Directory-Listed sites, in a manner similar to Google's favor of DMOZ-Listed-Sites?

So James, you did blow a lot of cash with that. Maybe i should buy it and give ABW members a discount for inclusion

what we bought wa an easier url, the 36 search programs came with it.We did this because we didn't know how shoppers find websites to shop. Our geocities url doesn't even mention shopping. Amazon.com gives each affiliate the alexa tool bar, and traffic graph. After we rebuilt the 3 websites, the traffic went up into the 6,600,600 clicks per site, for the past 3 months. That is free.

Holy s*!t 6.6 million clicks per site? I'd like to have a fraction of that.

You must have added a few extra zeros on to that by mistake. You can't get nothing past the crowd here at ABW.

That's because when we found out my wife had cancer, she needed constant care, and this affiliate retailing was not my way of earning a living.

Figured it out, the 6,600,600 is his Alexa Traffic rank, not his site traffic.
