    Another weird programming question
Back in the good old days - long before most of your times - I was making a nice living programming. One of the 'never to be broken' commandments was to size the fields in your database record so that the total length for a record was less than or equal to a 'sector boundary' 2/4/8/16/...256/512 ... with all of the changes between then and now, has that gone packing to history?

AM justification for this question is I am preparing to adjust my vendor information data records (from 8.3 G to ... 16.6 G (old school) or 10 G new school))

The varchar field sizes shrink/ expand to fit the data in mysql see the mysql website for details.
