Hey Richard, just letting you know I sent an email 20th May about a project in which webmerge quits.

I've been looking into this, and I found the solution.

Which version of FMP are you using? It seems their merge export format has changed a bit and now uses quoted commas where before they had used tabs.

Looking at your settings, I found that you had the data delimiter set to "," and the "Text values are in quotes" option checked. The latter is useful for feeds where some values may not be quoted, but since all fields in your data are quoted I found that just turning that off let your delimiter settings parse the file correctly.

FWIW, I got the clue that this was a parsing issue by looking at the data preview in the Sources tab. With "Text values are in quotes" checked the empty fields displayed a single quote character, but when I clicked that to uncheck the data displayed as I would expect, and the processing of the data was then clean too.

As a general rule, if the data preview looks good the rest of the processing should go smoothly, but if the preview looks wrong then you'll find unexpected results during processing.

So if you encounter an odd issue like this in the future, check the data preview in the Sources tab and make sure the data looks good. If not, try changing the options there until it looks clean, and likely the problem will go away.
