    How to choose good keywords
I'm having trouble finding a good reference for correlating the Google keyword tool results, with the Google search engine results....

    ie.

    "yamaha motorcycle sales" returns :
    3420 Google search results
    2400 Local Search Volume April
    390 Global Monthy Search Volume

"How to Cure a Cold Sore" returns :
    355,000 Google search results
    33,100 Local Search Volume April
    22,200 Global Monthy Search Volume

I realize we want lower search results and higher search volume, but what are some good numbers to go by to maximize your chances of selecting good keywords?

    Thanks!

First off, bear in mind all keyword research tools are just estimates

Second, if your using googles one, be sure to use EXACT otherwise your going to get totally skewed results

Third, is this for selecting a domain name or for creating pages?

This would be for choosing a niche and for writing articles.

    thanks!

You may want to take those keywords and run them through google again for even more keywords with volume but less competitive.

For fun - go to google type in your phrase - then select options - select wonder wheel to narrow down your phrases for less competitive ones.

For kicks I just did with your first selected keyword and the wonder wheel dished out this phrase: yamaha yzf r6 raven - which appears to have only 16k competing pages. I'm guessing that if you leave the yamaha out in your search efforts that you'll find better opportunities - just because there are SO many major stores online that carry multiple Yamaha products.

Take out the "raven" and see Gtrends info for possible ideas: http://www.google.com/trends?q=yamah...o=all&date=all

If you can't get positions 1, 2, 3, on Google then it's anyone's guess how much of the volume will even visit your page. Checking the pagerank of listed sites for the first three results for your keywords and their alexa rating will give you some idea.

Try finding keywords with minimum 3000 searches a month.
