Everyone,
Last year was such a great time, and time well spent professionally, that we've got to do this again.
This year however we're moving it up a bit so that the holidays just passed are still fresh in mind. And also because February is such a pleasant time of year in Chicago.

Like last year this is a FREE, casual, social/business gathering.
No speakers, no presentations, no one selling you. It's simply an opportunity for merchants and publishers to get together and simply hang out, talk shop and building relationships.

When: Friday February 6th. 10:00 a.m.
Where: JC Whitney Corp offices:
225 North Michigan Ave. 10th floor.

We'll have use of the board room where we'll have online access and can project to a screen anything we'd like to talk about. Bring something along for show and tell! At 1:00 we'll walk over to Andy's Jazz club. A renown Chicago Jazz club for some good food, great live music, and even livelier conversation.

If you're willing to hang with us into the evening there are several options I'll update here soon.

So whatcha' think?
Did I mention it's F R E E ?
How about a day out of the office?

If you like to join us I would appreciate a reply so I can plan and reserve ahead at Andy's.

Hope you can join us.
Rick

chicago being "pleasant" in febuary... is an interesting concept... I'm not sure that is what I would call it...

I live 190 miles to the south... in Terre Haute, where "pleasant in febuary" is also an interesting concept...

Not words that I would use...

seeing how were neighbors... I will try to make it...

Joe

And, that's the bottom line because it's my2cents!

Terre Haute? Hi neighbor! I look forward to attending, thanks for getting this together, Rick.

Rick,

I am only 8 hours from Chicago, but I'm thinking the same thing about February. I will try to make this one, but have to ask the hubbie if he has any plans, as driving in Chicago during February snowstorms is not going to be a cup of tea.

Brian,

That would be great. Thanks!
Will take help from any quarter. My intent is not for this to be a Rick/JCW thing. Just wanted to get this out the door as the days are speeding by. Open to suggestions. I'm thinking folks may be talked out by the evening and be open to less conversation-friendly diversions.

Could also use some help just getting the word out. I know a bunch of local merchants and -some- local publishers but have not carved out the time yet to contact these people yet.

Anyone else interested in contributing ideas or assistance would be grand.
My priority is that it remain a casual fun/free knowledge exchange and not a platform for sales presentations.

Thanks for offering.
Rick

Cool, Rick - for the time being I will concentrate on trying to recruit other locals that I know around here to join the fun. ...and just generally getting the word out.

I'll scan my brain as well for any ideas for activities past the Jazz Club, which sounds great.

KR, CP - y'all gonna make it back to Chicago - I don't think the police are looking for us anymore.

Thanks,

Hey Rick, are we in the same city? Pleasant? Look out your window, it hasn't stopped snowing all day.

In any case, if we want to attend all we need to do is email you? When you you need to know?

Thanks,
Robin

Would rather come in the spring and enjoy the city!
Guess I will have to miss this one. I hate to travel or plan too much travel in the winter. Snow happens.

February?

Depends on the weather...

Edit--Saw Connie's post

My sentiments are pretty much like hers. I really don't want to plan such a long drive in a month where sn*w is likely. If I saw a weather map that showed it completely clear I might risk it, but I'm tilted toward the "no" side because I can imagine getting over there and then having the weather DUMP a foot of sn*w on the roads for the return trip (which would be on Sunday for me).

Sooner the better is nice-to-have as folks will be curious who's attending.
I'd want to give Andy's a few days advance. Let's say end of day Tuesday the 3rd.

(reality is last minute people will certainly not be turned away but it's helpful for the planning)

Connie, Leader,
Sorry about the timing.

Part of my thinking and based on feedback from last year, was that a more frequent get together would be nice. Particularly as there will always be some that can't make any particular date. Personally I don't want to wait a whole year to get together with folks again. So... my thinking was once earlier in the calendar while recent holiday experiences are still fresh in mind and then again perhaps mid-September after everyone's back from vacations, the kids are back in school and -before- people start getting heads down in preparation for the next holiday crush.

If the roads and the Doppler (sp?) look promising it would be swell to have you join us.

I wish I could make it - I LOVE Chicago - and love excuses to take a day off!

And Brian showed us a good time last time I was there.

Am in the middle of a blizzard now - yuck!

Well, considering we are expecting up to 8 inches of snow tonight, I think I'm going to have to pass.

I'm going to try, even if it snows a bit. Are there any other merchants located in Chicago that have been contacted?

I have tried to recruit folks from around the area, admittedly with very little sucess. However - a lot of my failure was due to Rick's already stellar efforts - as nearly everyone I spoke to had already heard, or was planning on attending.

I think the weather was the number one reason I heard for not attending, in terms of merchants and affiliates that I spoke to in the surrounding areas. snow be gone.

All,

We're set to go on this end. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join the brave hearted who will be here.

Been too nuts on this end to carve out more time to beat the drum as I'd have liked but as for those that have confirmed...
Merchants:
Collectibles Today
Personal Creations
Socrates
JC Whitney

Publishers:
Elbowcreek
Amperemedia
My2Cents
Team PB

Service providers, consultants:
Performics
ShareSale
Biana B.
Douglas F.

A number of others said they wanted to wait and see. So we may have a few more or less then a dozen.

From the Chicago Tribune's website moments ago...

quote:
Friday...Cloudy. A chance of light freezing drizzle then a chance of light snow in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 30s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 50 percent.

Friday Night...Cloudy with a 30 percent chance of light snow. Lows in the upper teens. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph. Wind chill readings zero to 10 above zero.

The forecast for tomorrow isn't bad Rick, but you forgot to mention that this is the forecast for tonight:

Tonight...Snow...then a chance of light freezing drizzle after midnight. Snow accumulation 2 to 4 inches. Lows in the mid 20s. East winds 10 to 20 mph shifting to the northeast 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Gusts up to 35 mph.

So, driving tomorrow might be difficult for any of us who live out of the city.

I would've liked to go, but there's no one to stay with my 4 kids.
