I must admit that inspite of the sales it brings for Mondera, I'm not a great fan of Valentines...so I decided to go away and do something radically none valentines....

Booked the family onto a 12 Seat Cessna and 3 days in the Jungle near the Burmese border (Umphang). Didn't tell the wife (Nok) and kids where they were going until they got to the airport, clutching beach wear (in a desperate hope that the sea was some how involved in the trip..) and ushered them to a dusty counter where a picture of an "aeroplane" was plastered on the wall...and the screaming started "THAT's not an Airplane!!!".... After dragging them all back again and having security posted so they couldn't escape we got on the smallest plane I've ever been on...

Landed safely and were scooped off to the cabins, very nice place it is too (no beach). Then into action over 3 days of caving, rafting, feeding fish, climbing waterfalls, treking, campfires and all that cool stuff I haven't done for WAY too long.

Anyway, lying flat on my back on Saturday night watching the stars, I realized that the Internet is a beast!! It demands more of our time, sucks up more of our lives than any other form of technology ever invented. One day away can leave an email box looking like it will ruin your whole life and then of course there's all the other stuff at the office...and it's only getting wilder is that beast!

It was a great weekend, no PC, no TV, no phones, nothing at all apart from fresh air family and fun. Certainly the best weekend I've had for a long time, by far the best valentines, even Nok agreed with that, and just what was needed to fill up the gas tanks.

Of course within 3 seconds of getting home my mobile was ringing.. I think once I month I'm going to pack the families bags and go somewhere new, otherwise, what's the point eh!

Pictures to follow once I get them developed

    Cheers

    Chris

    Excellent Chris

... certainly stirred the wanderlust in me.

I took off on a 5 day canoe trip last year, and haven't been able to see how I could do something similar anytime soon.

    Now I'm looking harder!

AWESOME! If only they had high speed wireless Internet and cell towers, I would be able to do something like that.

I'm with Leader on this one! If I wanted all that earthy stuff, I'd watch a Tarzan movie! Give me nice scenery, plush surroundings, and someone to do things for me for my vacation!

    I agree with ANDY!

If I ever do take a vaction... (haven't had one in over 35 years)

I want to go somewhere to be pampered... by skipply clad young ladies... while i watch the Tarzan movie...

Sounds like you had a blast, I am eager for warmer weather myself.

The canoe trips with my Weimaraners swimming besides our canoe all-searching for a great spot to camp for the weekend.

We go at least once a month! Its makes life better if you can go at least once a month!

Some HUGE insects to be found too, certainly not much in the Four Seasons department though I did visit a a Teak House with huge garden that is for sale for $500,000 US... bit out of my pocket money range though, but wow what a house! Must cost a fair bomb in upkeep just to keep it clear of termites!

I'm looking to go back in November after the rainy season.

I'm thinking a weekend on a fully catered and crewed yacht next month...it's my birthday if I need an excuse to pamper myself this time round better put alex on a Bungey rope though!

    Cheers
