    Unhappy Big State Tax Hikes
    Right now, at least 47 states are facing significant shortfalls in their 2009 and/or 2010 budgets, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a think tank in Washington, D.C. And many of those states are looking to tax hikes to help fill the gaps.

    Nice article. I haven't kept up with Indiana's budget, other than the idea that the Governor refuses to spend the rainy day fund and keeps sending the state legislature's proposed budgets back to the drawing board. I think we're okay over here.
    Following everyone else is a GREAT way to become average.

    The gov is always looking for more ways to raise money. It is not surprising that they are trying to get around the sales tax barrier. The next thing will be dragging companies into states for income tax purposes based on where the affiliates are located.

    Illinois has already stated it wants to raise its income tax to 4.5% from 3%. I think so far it fell through. You know if they increased it just to 3.5% it would bring in substantial revenue but would also be politically more palatable.
