    Spam From A Merchant
I have received approx 12 e-mails today from a merchant on the SAS network. All are promotions directed to me as if I am a buyer. There was nothing in these e-mails concerning affiliate marketing. The material in these e-mails does not seem to be available to me as an affiliate for promotional purposes.

    Am I misunderstanding something here????

I have had this to happen 2 times in the past, not SAS merchants. Each time I have dropped the merchant.

Since there have been no conversions for this merchant, I think that it may be time to do another "DROP"

If it's ChicStar I've gotten 15 this morning and at least that many more after dropping them.

    That is the one.................

I have a replacement lined up. Looks like it is a good day to make some changes.

I have also asked to be removed from their mail list. Looks like that doesnt work either. Will add them to the spam filter.

Edit at 2:30 PM--------The count is 28 since 8:55 AM today

I don't think this is ChicStar's fault -- I think it's a problem with the ShareASale system that broadcasts merchant emails to affiliates. The email appears to be coming from ShareASale's server (check the headers).

    > Received: from unknown [198.104.131.165] (EHLO outbound.shareasale.com) <
The emails are coming every ten minutes (exactly).

I've emailed ShareASale and even left a message on Brian's cell phone.

    Mark,

I think that you are right.
They are comming at 10 minute intervals.

But are they flooding their mailing list, the customers which we send to them, with this much e-mail???

Witzer asked: > "... are they flooding their mailing list, the customers which we send to them, with this much e-mail?" <

If the problem is with the ShareASale system that broadcasts emails to affiliates, then these are only going to affiliates. The fact that these are continuing certainly suggests that these duplicative emails aren't going to their regular list (which I'm sure includes many staffers who would have noticed this and shut it down by now).

I'm quite disappointed that ShareASale has not yet turned off the spigot on this.

Added: The first copy of this email was sent by the ShareASale server at 05:55 am (PDT); the most recent was sent at 1:55 pm (PDT), so that's a full eight hours (49 emails) -- so far.

ShareASale has not yet turned off the spigot on this.
It is still running at a steady 10 minute clip.
At first, I thought that they were all different, but I now see that
it is the same thing each time.

I do like their products, so I think that I will
    continue promoting for awhile

It would be nice if the e-mail that they are sending could be turned into a widget so that I could put it on a couple of sites.

I finally decided to try contacting ChicStar about this, and I'm disappointed to report that I cannot find any valid contact information for ChicStar. The web site doesn't identify the company's location. The phone number listed in WHOIS is apparently no longer valid (it starts as an unregistered voice-mail box, then starts a fax tone); the address in the WHOIS record appears to be a mail service.

I've emailed the gmail address listed in the WHOIS record.

I've just removed myself from the ChicStar affiliate program on ShareASale, which should end the emails. However, looking at the online ShareASale interface, I see only a single affiliate newsletter sent today through the ShareASale system, so this definitely looks like a glitch at ShareASale, and thus it won't surprise me if these keep coming every 10 minutes until Monday.

I only got one email from them today so not all affiliates are being spammed with emails.

    All,

I've made some changes to the mail queue on this that will hopefully fix the problem, I'll be monitoring it but let me know if anything changes.
    Thanks,

Looks like Brian was listening, is on top of it and that the problem was with SAS.

    IT Happens!

Better it was an email issue vs. something that shares all of our personal or banking info..

    I've gotten used to Spam..

Just can't get it all. -

I don't have a clue about the merchant, but it is kind of a shame that they are paying for it.

I put myself in their shoes and said WHOA!

Brian: Thanks for responding -- but 30 minutes later, they are still coming through every 10 minutes.

Added 3:56pm: The 3:55 pm (PDT) copy was just delivered into my inbox.

    Brian,

The banners on get links isn't working either. Text links are, but not banners.

Sorry for getting off topic, but didn't know if you had read the banners thread.

    Thanks!

FYI: the "Where's The Banners?" thread

And sadly, at 4:15 pm (PDT) another copy of the ChicStar email dropped into my inbox.

Received 7 between 5:25 and 6:35, but none since. Maybe fixed?

Got over 25 emails but it seems to be fixed. No more emails coming from Chic-star. Thanks for taking care of the issue Brian.
