If you're not following the "sales tax" discussion threads, you should be aware that today, Amazon announced that if California passes the "Amazon Tax" sales-tax-collection law, then Amazon will terminate all of its California web-publisher relationships under its "Associates Program."

This adds the largest US state to many smaller states that received similar letters -- and most importantly, Amazon has already begun the termination process for its North Carolina web publisher "associates." It seems likely that with the budget pressure in almost every U.S. state, the same language will still appear in many other states' budget bills without warning.

If California and other large states enact these laws, I wonder if Amazon will simply feel compelled to shut down the Associates Program entirely?
