For those of you wanting to maintain your rotating banner here we go:

CGI-Factory.com they provide a banner rotator that is wonderful, and can be maintain for impressions or clicks and textual links.

I only had to change 2 things.

The script calls itself by: ad.pl
    I renamed mine images_blah.cgi

Host all qksrv.net banners yourself. It really is not that much space. You can use the original URL as it changes it for you. Also size is not an issue as it does not set the size.

    For an example page visit:
    Test Page
This is where I am working towards getting as many programs to by pass Norton.

    SandraR

Better ad : I am working so if it does not work when you click it, probably becuase I am working on it.

    Update:

The FREE rotator is wonderful. A few modifications and its simply sweet!

Does require hosting the images so they are NEVER blocked, unless your merchant is kind enough not to use any of the Norton blocked urls.

You do not need to change the name of ad.pl it is not called in a way that Norton notices.

Things I do not like about it:
    1. Does not offer Non SSI functions
    2. Could use a better for sale interface.
    3. Wish it would rename the banners so I do not have to host them.

    Things I love about it:
    1. Norton looses, they have not blocked any of the banners I place.
    2. Can actually submit text and not only banners
    3. If selling you can offer clicks or impressions. Heck or text for that matter. It accepts HTML in place of a banner if you wish
    4. Runs from Mysql

    Maybe I'm missing something here.

It's easy enough to "get around" the banner display issue by hosting them yourself as opposed to calling from qksrv.net, but wouldn't qksrv.net links themselves still be blocked?

    Chief_beef,

The href link will not be blocked because the script actually changes the name of the URL to the program name then redirects it to the qksrv.net or whichever url is being blocked.

Sandra, I just checked my cookies log in Norton IS and it said it blocked the referrer cookie for CJ. Not sure if that effects sales tracking or not.

    Action: Blocked
    Type: Referrer
    URL: http://www.qksrv.net/image-xxxxx-xxxxxxxx
    Data: http://www.ssan.com/test.html

    Action: Blocked
    Type: Ad
    URL: http://mirror.qkimg.net/xxxx/xxxxxx-10.gif
    Data: mirror.qkimg.net

    What is this??? mirror.qkimg.net

Catalyst qkimg.net redirects to http://www.cj.com/qksrv.jsp what the ??? Does not make since! We are not spammers. we should sue Norton for blocking ads and redirecting us to that page.

freedom, it's not freedom till you build a business model where you can leave and the commissions will still be there. :0).

    Linda,

Its because there are 3 banners on that page. If you notice the bottom banner is the one being blocked. The one I have yet to find more time to work on.

The top 2 banners are clean and free from being blocked

I did not move the google ads to the script, what I notice is that Norton blocks banners especially if there is more than 1 banner. When Norton see that there are no banners present it will leave google ads alone. I have no idea why I am just noticing that it is true.

K thanks, weird I had never seen that URL before, I don't think.

I just did a live update for Norton mainly just wanted the new virus stuff. It updated everything and now banners that WERE showing before are now blocked too.

    Linda,

I also updated and my banners are still there!

The third banner no longer shows at all.

    Another observation:

    *banneradvertisement.html
Was my page to advertise the selling of impressions, the link refused to show up, so I changed it to a misspelling of merch_iamges.html

At a certain point are sites will look like email Spam with all type of @!#%!)*& To get a viewing.

Norton is going to force a completely new language.

I MAY have found some protection from this. Can't believe I didn't think of it sooner.
    HTML encryption.

Here is one of several programs on the market.
This is the only one I found so far that mentions Norton specifically.

"TagsLock stops such programs as Teleport Pro, WebZip, Off-line Explorer and others. Web pages protected by this program bypass any Web Content filter (Proxomitrom, AdMuncher, Norton Inernet Security etc). TagsLock can encrypt entire web sites or just a single page in just a few clicks."

    Free download trial:
    http://www.tagslock.com/tagslock_pro.htm

The key will be for some people to test programs like this and find one that works well, is easy, HAS NO PARASITEWARE bundled in and does not interfer with SE spiders. This one has a good rating and says it's transparent to SE. But I don't know if it's bundled with any badware.

BONUS also protects from site copying and email harvesters.

Sandra... anyone have time to do some testing?
There are a bunch of others, don't know which one is best.

My link in google adwords does not work

I'm not sure what is going on with google adwords as I did the following.

Changed the ad to that of a ad that does work
(A Competitor site) and my ad still did not
show up properly so there is nothing wrong
    with my site.

Could it be down to the keywords I am using?

    RE: TagsLock

Good find. Thanks. However, isn't it going to affect a page's ability to be found by the search engines if it is encrypted?

Tagslock says it does not affect search engines (not sure if its true) but I dont think it does a very good job of blocking Norton either.

If Tagslock works like the other I've seen it would not be search engine friendly. These programs usually replace (notice I didn't use the word encrypt) the entire BODY of the page with a javascript. Search engines just like any user with Javascript off will not see the page. Most likely the people at Tagslock are refering to the TITLE and META tags in the header which these programs usually don't touch and most search engines don't index the META tags anyway.

These programs offer no security. Anyone can run that javascript code and read your HTML source. There no secret password. The password is right there in the javascript. At most these programs are only a deterance and at worst they negate all your hard work at SEO.
