    Posting Affiliate URL's
Just curious. Why don't you want folks posting affiliate URLs?

I'm just curious GMS, why would you want to post an affiliate link? What do you think it's going to do for you?

You probably don't know what this forum is for. So you are excused. Read the rules and some threads, you will get the idea, I promise.

As rematt said, what good would it do you? We're all affiliates, if we want to buy something we'd use our link.

It also keeps people from posting endorsements just to get a commission. If someone says I tried "X" and it was great, would you believe them if an affiliate tag was on the url?

I really had no intention of posting an Affiliate URL, but I saw a post where somebody else did, and I thought that posting the Affiliate URL was kind of helpful to the discussion, but the moderator wasn't happy about it.

I'm just curious to know, why is it a problem?

The purpose of the forum is to learn and exchange ideas and viewpoints, when you post an affiliate link you are trying to earn a commission from the other members.

Perhaps there may be instances where that would go over without falling under scrutiny (I've been here for many years and I'm not aware of any such instance). If that ever did happen, it would most certainly be a case of a long-established member posting something very relevant to the subject at hand and of true value to the membership base.

Well, it could certainly be relevant.

I'm thinking specifically of using SaS and their funky links "Hey, is this coded right?" or some such. Same with CJ's old masked link builder.

Of course, I certainly understand the reasoning behind not "outing" affiliates who want to remain undercover.

You can't post a link to someone's site and say "How do they do that?"

You can't post your own affiliate coded link because you are in a forum where pretty much everyone is already an affiliate and they would use their own links.

So whether your question is "Why can't I post an affiliate's site" or it's "Why can't I post an affiliate link?", there are very good reasons why you can't do either of them.

Actually, I think a lot of newbies do not read through the threads when they first land here and find out, that for the most part, ABWers are affiliates for hard goods (except for CPA, etc.) & NOT Internet marketers (how to market to a gadzillion people, get traffic from the entire Universe, info on how to become a billionaire, blah, blah, blah). It's a completely different biz with different issues. People here aren't interested in the same stuff as members of the Warrior or Wildfire forums.

Dropping affiliate links (say for shoes, coffee, garden seeds, electronics, etc.) isn't prohibited only by Haiko, but by many merchants who permit you to use their affiliate links only on your own website(s). They do not want to be accused of allowing spam either.
