How many of you use privacy policies? I've noticed some merchants require them. Are they good to have? And where can I find decent info on making one?

    Thanks!

the policies shown at sites seem to resemble each other. these days all sites should have them; I notice mine get hits regularly. you have to cover your own site policy and try to explain you have no control over your merchants and do it without scaring anyone away.

there should be some good examples within the work of the people in this group.

    anybody?

Thanks for replying, Herb. I was starting to wonder if anyone was going to. I think it's a good topic that everyone here needs to be up on... especially new people who don't know anything about it. I noticed that some merchants require privacy policies, and the lack of knowledge on how to make one can hinder many of us.

You can get some ideas here:

Use that as a guide. Mold it to fit your site.

Thank you. That's a great place to start. I don't want to plagerize it, but I also don't want to fork over that much cash.

Like you said it's a good place to "get some ideas."

actually, you can copy a bit from this one and a bit from that one; what I meant by truth was, whatever you tell your visitors regarding any cookies your server may set, plus any cookies your merchants' servers may set.

If you don't gather any personal information for distribution, let your visitors know that. They want to know their personal privacy is not being violated by you.

I realize this is over-simplifying it. You'll get good ideas from reading statements from sites. And it doesn't have to read like a long contract, either.
