    Unhappy Elance server(s) compromised / breached?
    Due to my unfortunate job circumstances, I am setting up www.ericewe.com wordpress to publish my resume and my work. Went the eLance way but I just got this email in my inbox a second ago.

    p.s. Yeah, I know my site is incomplete yet.

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Dear Eric,
    We recently learned that certain Elance user information was accessed without authorization, including potentially yours. The data accessed was contact information -- specifically name, email address, telephone number, city location and Elance login information (passwords were protected with encryption). This incident did NOT involve any credit card, bank account, social security or tax ID numbers.
    We have remedied the cause of the breach and are working with appropriate authorities. We have also implemented additional security measures and have strengthened password requirements to protect all of our users.
    We sincerely regret any inconvenience or disruption this may cause.
    If you have any unanswered questions and for ongoing information about this matter, please visit this page in our Trust & Safety center: http://www.elance.com/p/trust/account_security.html
    For information on re-setting your password, visit: http://help.elance.com/forums/30969/entries/47262
    Thank you for your understanding,
    Michael Culver
    Vice President
    Eric, I received the same email yet I have never done anything with Elance. I'm not quite sure what to make of it.
    Betty, Have you ever created an acct with them? It looks like they were able to get hold of
    "name, email address, telephone number, city location and Elance login in".
    That is a lot of personal info and in the black market, that is worth a few dollars per contact.
    I changed my passwd as a security precaution.
    Was your email addressed as XXXX_inactive? XXXX being a username.
    I went to login and it wouldn't take my username, it only accepted username_inactive ... how odd ... is this just a ploy to get inactives back into the system?
    Eric,
    I signed up for their affiliate program a long time ago but nothing else.
    Yeah, that is odd. Makes me wonder the same thing.
    I am curious to see if others receive this email.
    I didn't receive the email but when I tried to login, there is a security measure that said an email was sent to my email addy and needed to follow the instructions in the email before I could login. I went there and for the past 5-10 minutes, still no email.
    real strange.
    I can't imagine storing the affiliate login on the same table. Bad security...
