China has now surpassed the USA to become the #2 market for luxury brand spending
    http://www.cctv.com/program/bizchina...6/102093.shtml

And consider that it doesn't even account for luxury goods purchased overseas by Chinese tourists. When ecommerce starts to really catch on in China...wow.

It'll be nice when their credit card penetration is as high as ours is.

I'll expect a wave of Chinese market affiliate programs.

There are a lot of reasons to look toward the Asian markets for as the next place for online marketing and affiliate advertising. Search marketing and online advertising are still very new to Asia, the costs are much lower, as is the traffic –due in part to the large digital divide in most parts of Asia. The next few years will likely see a large change in online branding, internet advertising and affiliate marketing in Asia.

Wow, that honestly doesn't surprise me. In Vancouver we see a continued growth in the many successful Chinese owned businesses and business people coming here with a LOT of money. Their economy is very powerful and I would't be surprised if they surpassed us in a few more things.

This is very sad though. China has lots of problems and money is just making them worse. I know of husbands who beat their wives and make them work without pay to maintain their extravagant life. They just have no human rights out there, so nobody can do anything to stop these things from happening. Just something to think about when considering getting into this market.

Don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but THE CHINESE OWN US and they are looking to the future.

    Huge American Debt.

    They're buying everything.

Largest Military force in the world.

    Killer Education.

By the time my grand poopers are adults, China will call our bluff and do something, I don't know what exactly, but something, that will change the world as we know it.

    Be afraid.

    Be VERY Afraid.

Well, if you must ... sell them Sterling Silver Chop Sticks. What is a luxury good here might not qualify in China ... on the other hand, Buicks are the status symbol car there. I doubt many Americans would buy a Buick from Government Motors.

I think the luxury brands referenced in the above story are about the same. In regard to Buick, the Buick sold in China is a completely different car (designed and sold only in China) than is sold in the USA.

I believe there been about 12,000 Mercedes sold in China so far this year, a bit over 10% of their overall global number sold. 200 Ferraris, compared to about 1000 sold in the USA last year, however the Chinese market is growing in double digit percentages, whereas USA is declining about 5-10% per year now.

In regard to Fashion (Chanel, Fendi, Hermes, Rolex, Philip Patek, etc.) it's really about the same.
