I recently had a merchant make a CC commission payment to my PayPal account (first time I've had this happen). Is it normal for a merchant to use a CC to make commission payments? Is this a red flag?

If this is a common practice I already hate it because of the CC processing fee.

    Thanks for any comments.

Well .. the answer to that is determined if it was present in their terms when you signed up.

It appears it must have been if they new exactly what user name you had at PayPal when making the payment to you ... or did they take a wild blind guess and just send money to an account name and hope it was you?

Personally, I prefer checks .. some here don't mind direct CC payment options.

Well, you didn't really answer my questions?

Yes I have received several PayPal payments from this merchant in the past but they have all been just money transfers. Not a CC payment.

Hey, I'm rather new at this. Just wondering if merchant commission payments via CC to PayPal accounts are normal?

The merchant is using their CC to make a payment to you.

I see nothing wrong with that. But it sounds unusual.

I believe you have the option to refuse, or return the money through Paypal. A merchant did this to me once as well - my personal account at Paypal was going to have to be upgraded to business and so I returned/refused the money and got the merchant to send the money again NOT through credit card.

jrami, whats wrong is that you get charged 32 cents and also 2.9% of the transaction charge in order to receive the money and so it results in a drop in commission, whereas if they do a straight money transfer or pay by check, this does not cost the affiliate any money.

I would just contact the AM and explain that there is a fee if they use a Credit Card for you. I bet the AM does not know.

I've paid affiliates through paypal before and it's kinda of a confusing process and the documentation is horrible.

You earned what you earned! For them to take 2 to 3% away so they can pay with a credit card is not part of the deal. The fee should be theirs not yours. It's not like an employer takes a 2% processing fee when they pay you.

Just chat with the AM, because I bet it was a mistake.

    Cheers,

    Beth
