I just searched from 1/16/10 - 1/20/10 and it's available for $148/night through Orbitz or $71/night through EasyClickTravel. It also looks like it is available as an "opaque" hotel for $53/night through LastMinuteTravel.com (with a $25 cancellation fee with 7 days+ notice). I just booked my stay -- $241.38 total including taxes for four nights, about a third of the convention rate -- so I can confirm that this is the Rio.

The Rio is one of my least favorite 4-star and above Vegas hotels, but at this price and for the convenience of being at the convention hotel, I'll stay there.

For anyone trying to find it on LastMinuteTravel.com, search for Las Vegas, NV and your dates, then check "Las Vegas - West of Strip" and "4 star". It was the only hotel that showed up for me. It was $92.36 for 1/16, $50.37 for 1/17, and $33.58 for 1/18 and 1/19.

Michael, That is one awesome rate for the conference hotel.
I also found that Expedia packages to Rio from SFO are offering great prices. For a 4 night stay at Rio + flights + taxes came in under 420 with no risk of opaqueness in the hotel or flight timings, Also, expedia offered
Ultimate Vegas Experience which has the following benefits:

Book a stay in a "Ultimate Vegas Experience" or "Ultimate Vegas Experience Stay 4-Save!" or "Ultimate Vegas Experience-Stay & Save!" rate plan for travel now to January 31, 2010 and receive an offer booklet upon check-in valid for savings at Harrah's Las Vegas food and entertainment venues. Highlights include:
    # 2-for-1 show tickets, including Penn and Teller (Rio), Legends in Concert (Harrahs), Nathan Burton (Flamingo Las Vegas), and Chippendales (Rio), Jubilee (Bally's)
    # $5 off buffets at Paris Las Vegas, Rio, Flamingo Las Vegas, Harrah's Las Vegas, Imperial Palace
    # 2 free tickets to The Auto Collection at the Imperial Palace
    # 2 free admissions to the Eiffel Tower Experience at Paris Las Vegas
    # Free souvenir with $15 purchase at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville at Flamingo Las Vegas
    # 2 free admissions and 2 free drinks at the Rio's VooDoo Lounge
    # Shopping coupon booklet for Forum Shops at Caesars Palace
    # Savings on air or land tours of Hoover Dam and helicopter tours of the Grand Canyon
Cannot be combined with other offers. Must be at least 21 years of age. Show ticket offers applicable up to 4 people; certain shows not available on select nights. Subject to availability. Gratuities not included. Take-out not available. Blackout dates may apply. Valid picture ID required. Offer is non-transferable. No exchanges, replacements, substitutions, or trade-outs. Any attempt to sell, auction or otherwise transfer shall nullify this offer. Hotel Management reserves all rights. Other restrictions may apply.

I just booked it on lastminutetravel.com for $291.13 for 4 nights, 1/16-1/20. It looks like it went up a little since Michael first found it, but definitely a lot cheaper than the group rate of $169 a night.

    Thanks so much Michael.

I suppose if there is a bright side to the economic woes, it's that The Rio gave me 3 free nights during ASW09...including Friday and Saturday! I look forward to seeing everyone again.

May be it is the nature of Las Vegas with plenty of accommodation availability ... Getting a good price on Rio or near by hotels seem to be much lower than the rate offered for ASW.

Usually I find the conference offered rate to be the lowest (for example CJU Santa Barbara Fess Parker Rates). But ASW Rio hotels seem to be one of the highest and there are many better offer rates.

Perhaps ASW should stay away from getting a special rate going forward and leave it to the participants to books whatever low rates they find online

It is not transparent. You never know until booked. Like priceline bid hotels, it is non-refundable once booked.

That is why I went with Expedia air+hotel package which has complete transparency and offered me similar rates on Rio after the Expedia package discount. Plus I got the Vegas Ultimate Package from Rio with several benefits included as well

Thanks for the great info Michael! I just booked mine and it was the same price - $241.38 for 4 nights.

You don't know for sure until you book, but there really aren't any other hotels that fit the description (except perhaps the Palms). 4-star West of the Strip pretty much just describes those two hotels.

    Hey all,

Thanks for posting the great rates that are available at the Rio outside of our group rate. We encourage you to book them.

Our group rate is available when all the great, limited-capacity rates are sold out and definitely comes in handy if you book much closer to the event.

    See you in Vegas!

Bump ... It makes sense that people book the hotel now before the rates go up 3 or 4 times. Hope ABW members attending ASW10 take advantage of this while it lasts!. What's more with this low rate on hotel, your total cost of attending ASW10 event may be cheaper than you thought it was ...

When you are checking rates, also look at staying 4 nights instead of 3 nights. The total I paid for staying Sat thru Wed was cheaper than Sat thru Tues. (Also got the extras that redtagdeals mentioned)

    Unhappy Too Late
Guess I was too late for the great deals mentioned above, now the online rates for the RIO are barely lower than the conference rate. If anyone comes across any good deals, please post them here.

Rates moved up a bit. But they are still lower than ASW rates.

I see Expedia packages (flight + hotel) to be still a good deal even though prices nudged by an average of $50/night.

i.e. for the same package I booked earlier, one needs to pay another $200 extra now for 4 nights + flight!.

As it gets closer, the rates for Rio may go up to be even higher than conference rate!

Before last year's affiliate summit in Vegas, there were great deals on RIO available just a couple of days before the event started. The rooms in RIO are huge, but the one I had was also very dark and looked like it had not been renovated since the hotel opened in 1990. Then you have to walk several miles through the casino to get to the conference rooms.... Anyway, if prices do not go down from the current level, I will consider staying off-site.

I feel your pain walking through the smoke filled casino floors. It is the disgusting part of Vegas stay. Once I stayed at MGM Signature and commuted to RIO for the summit. I avoided the filthy smoke all the time!. And that was my best stay at Vegas

The latest Affiliate Summit newsletter reports that the Rio has dropped the group rate on Friday to $99, for anyone coming in early. I'm considering it. TONS OF PEOPLE will be checking in on Saturday, and the lines can be pretty awful.

Yup - This will be my third Vegas AffSum. Arrived on Friday last year and it was nice. So we'll be there on Friday this year shortly after noon - non-stop flight from Baltimore to LAS. Looking forward to it - for sure.

I've booked the $99 for Friday. The lines are crazy on Saturday, and it will be nice to get settled in early. I missed the first half of the NFL playoff game last year while waiting in line!
If you are planning on booking this deal I suggest doing so very soon as all other rooms are sold out for Friday! Unless you use the code SRAFFI0 you won't be able to find a room. In addition, this code only works online.
    See you at ASW10

I went ahead and booked Friday. Not sure if I'll be coming in Friday or Saturday (haven't booked my flights yet), but you can cancel up to 72 hours in advance, so I figure it's worth locking in the option.
