How do you test a product to see if it converts?
I always here folks say "test, this or that" but no one ever explains what to test and how to do it.

    Thanks,
    Ron

Run Adwords pay per click to the page.

Throw 200 clicks at a page. Then you will know how traffic of that type works on that page.

    Question
I'm just a newbie so if this sounds dumb, be kind. If the google keyword search tool shows an average PPC of $2, isn't that test going to cost $400? I recognize that you have to spend money to make money sometimes, but that seems like an awfully high price tag for a 'learning experience.'

    what am I not understanding?

Realize that often times such estimates are overly high. Still you might very easily be looking at $1 per click. So let's say you spend $200 for 200 clicks. If you convert any at all, you might get back $150. So you are only out $50. Big conversions demand big PPC bids. So do all you can to get your ducks in a row before proceeding. And, do some research on how Adwords works, particularly their Quality Score. Quality Score will dictate your ad position equally as much as your bid. If you have a bad Quality Score (under 5). You might end up not getting any clicks even at $2 per click.

Great response, thank you! A follow up question, if I may? I've noticed that PPC bids SEEM to be less expensive at yahoo and msn. While I recognize that those only have 20% of the searches, would there be any validity to using them for a test. Either with the same 200 clicks for a cheaper price or with the same budget but then you are able to buy more clicks for more split testing?
