Was just about to post about this, it's live on all the news channels. Oh no, it's going down right now.

Nobody is in there. Said it might be a hoax that a child was in there.

Either it's a hoax or the boy fell out/jumped out at the beginning, or there was a compartment that fell off before they got cameras on it or maybe the one brother who said his brother got in was wrong.

I'm leaning towards hoax. Family was on Wife Swap reality show.

    Why was 6 old alone?
    Why was balloon left unlocked?

Parents have some explaining to do.

It's all over the news here.
Apparently it was built as part of their storm chasing/science hobby.

From seeing the size of the balloon, I would be surprised if it could even get any altitude with the weight of a 6yr old. (50lbs or so)

You guys see the iReports that the Dad has submitted in the past? I sure hope the kid is ok b/c they still don't know where he is...but based on what I saw on iReport I wouldn't put it past that Dad to stage a hoax like this.

Plus experts are saying that there is no way a helium filled balloon of that size could lift a human being.

Now we know how some of those UFO videos are made!

Just get one of those metallic looking helium balloon, wrap some blinking Christmas tree lights around the edge, and...

Well, if it is a hoax, it's a costly one. Planes were diverted at DIA (airport). Major search including helicopters, etc.

There is a not so fine line between a hoax and stupidity. I pray this is a hoax... it would be a bit sick for someone to stir the world up in anguish over this poor child for a little attention.. and I am sure charges will abound if it is found to be one... it would just be sheer stupidity....

The police think they will find him hiding somewhere.

Unfortunately, a lot of general aviation (small aircraft, balloons, ultralights, etc.) accidents/incidents are reported with inaccuracies. That is often (usually?) because of a lack of knowledge on the part of the reporters - and the pressure to keep from being "scooped" by another media source.

For example: many incidents are reported with the phrase, "A flight plan was not filed." - as if that makes a difference. The vast majority of small airplane flights are completed in perfect safety without the need of a flight plan.

Sorry, I'll put the away now. </rant>

I concur Bill. Media misinformation and misstatement of fact causes confusion, but that sells the story. Predictably, the rush to judgment types had it all figured out even as the balloon was still in flight. The usual... It was a publicity stunt. The parents must be irresponsible. They were on wife swap so they must be seedy etc etc etc...blah blah.

The family went through unthinkable duress during the time that little Falcon was missing. We are all relieved that he is ok and happy to hear that the sherrif's dept has officially determined that there was no stunt involved.

According to the network's Web site, the Heene family "devote(s) their time to scientific experiments that include looking for extraterrestrials ..."

    Yeah, good luck with that.

Not sure if anybody saw the segment on Larry King where the boy said "it was for a show" when Larry king asked "Didn't you hear them calling you" or something along that line. The law enforcement is declining to comment about filling charges. initially, they said NO charges will be filled but after larry king, it's a different story now.

The parents were on the TV reality show "spouse exchange" or something like that.

    glad the kid is ok.
If they are able to find out that they set this up, I am not suprised. The dad did not sound too convincing and especially the comment from the spouse swap lady, "they are looking to get in the news"
