    I just saw that tonight too.

    I always wait for a few weeks before I do update.

    Ah dang, I just updated mine. Yeah, I probably should wait awhile to see how it goes with other people but mine went ok as far as I know.

    Well just because I have so many custom tweaks to my theme and it may break with the multiple plugins I have.

    Good to hear that it went well with yours

    New Wordpress releases are kind of like new Microsoft Windows releases.... you wait for the guinea pigs to work out the bugs before jumping into it. Windows 7 comes out tomorrow (22nd) I'm in no rush, I'll wait for service pack 1 to be released in 2 months. I'll update Wordpress the 1st of November.
    Someday starts today

    I upgraded 7 sites last night - all from the one click upgrade. All are custom themes. Nothing broke.

    The 2.8.5 update bolsters some security and removes some deprecated code. It's more of a house cleaning update than anything... here's what was updated:

    * Fix for trackback DOS
    * Removal of permalink_structure eval
    * Remove some create_function() calls
    * Disallow unfiltered uploads for admins by default. Enable it again with define(’ALLOW_UNFILTERED_UPLOADS’, true); in wp-config.php
    * Add extra escaping here and there for defense in depth
    * Retire two old importers
    * A few small bug fixes

    I'm too scared to do it this early. I am on 2.7 as it is anyway.

    I will update this time, probably in a few weeks.

    I look forward to seeing how it goes for the more brave guinea pigs

    The longer you wait in between updates the more likely you are to have issues with the upgrade. I will start doing the next round of updates immediately.

    I just did a few sites. Some from 2..7.1 to 2.8.4 and some from 2.8.4. to 2.8.5.

    No problems with any of them.

    Wordpress is getting better all the time.

    I don't use a lot of plugins, but I noticed that this one is a security update:
    http://wordpress.org/development/200...urity-release/

    2.8.6 fixes two security problems that can be exploited by registered, logged in users who have posting privileges. If you have untrusted authors on your blog, upgrading to 2.8.6 is recommended. The first problem is an XSS vulnerability in Press This discovered by Benjamin Flesch.
    so I went ahead and updated.

    Yes it does, however the older versions don't have it so you might have to do an incremental update manually first.

    I have upgraded all of my sites to 2.8.6 - no problem at all with the one click upgrade from within the dashboard.

    I used to wait until the .x.1 version was released, but after seeing 2.8 go to 2.8.6 and having one of the versions break the upgrade script, I think I'll wait several weeks for 2.9.

    I'll put it on a new site and test an upgrade on a low traffic existing site.

    I updated @ 50 sites covering 50 different themes without incident. The new photo editor is a welcomed upgrade! I love WP!

    Upgraded some of my sites last night without incident. I have not seen any difference yet. One of the welcome features is that it has a trashcan type feature now. When you delete things they are not really deleted. Neato
