    If you remember Soupy Sales....
1960s-70s TV icon Soupy Sales has died at 83.

If you're too young to remember him, he took a successful weekday kid's show into a prime time hit with time-tested jokes, crude puppets, and big name guest stars who would always get a pie in the face.

    From 1979 with Alice Cooper
Since June 10, 2012 a vegan aarf but still writing the Hound Dawg Sports Blog

I definitely remember him, one of my icons from my childhood. Very popular with his kids show, didnt he get in trouble for asking kids to send in their parents money (in jest)?

So long Soupy. Thanks for showing me how to be silly in a serious world.

Yes, this is what eventually got his show suspended. He told kids on a New Year's Day broadcast to go into their parent's bedroom, get those funny pieces of green paper with pictures of presidents on them and mail them to him. Unfortunately, a lot of kids did just that. Here's Soupy in later years talking about that incident: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-OGy3Kh7yM

I forgot how funny he was. RIP Soupy, for a day or two, then make 'em laugh.

For those who don't know Soupy, enjoy this reflection on his 1965 "New Year's Day incident":
