Getting annoyed with completely unrelated offers

I realize everyone is gearing up for the busy season (or we're already in it!), so I would just like merchants to think twice about inviting completely unrelated publishers into their program!
In the past week I've received no less than 40 invitations to programs that have NOTHING to do with my niche.
I suspect it's just a blanket process based on site statistics (ie. mass mailing) - maybe the networks should be providing some guidance, to make sure the merchant is contacting appropriate publishers.
I'm all for expansion, but one look at my site would tell the merchant it's just not going to happen.
It's tough enough to manage the existing store offers that are coming in bucketloads right now.
Just a minor vent..

I think the merchants can only mail affiliates who have joined their program and not otherwise. Please correct me if I am wrong.
