When I saw this the other day, the first thing that jumped in to my mind was DISCLOSURE!!!

If you check out things like Sponsored Tweets, they force you to include something like #ad or 'brought to you by' in the tweet so that it's clear to the reader that the tweet is sponsored.

They (linkshare) make mention of disclosure at the bottom of their #tweetshop page by saying:

Please make sure to read our blog post on the new FTC guidelines on disclosure.
    and that links out to:
    http://blog.linkshare.com/2009/10/14...on-disclosure/

But, they don't offer any real guidelines.

    I say, tread carefully.

Yeah, I don't see myself using this or many people using it for that matter. Haven't put much thought into it so maybe other people have some ways to use it. But I can't think of many instances where I just need to tweet a product link or two. You can't put much in 140 characters even with shortened urls. I'm more apt to link to a page on my site where I can do a lot more.

    Welcome to Twitter spam..

The way I see it (and I could be wrong), legitimate updates will be replaced by hundreds of thousands of affiliate links. I fail to see how this adds value for the merchant, and I could see commissions being reversed..

If I'm not mistaken, some merchants don't allow their links on user-submitted sites.

    Again, I could be wrong.

Any merchant with a datafeed on Linkshare was automatically opted into this service, which is essentially DTM advertising and I'm pretty sure the merchants weren't notified. I know many merchants that do not allow DTM from Twitter or anywhere else and Linkshare is violating all their TOS. If you read the LinkshareBlog twitter account you will see where they said merchants can opt out.

IMO they rolled this out without the proper disclosure to merchants, and it should be opt IN, and that the merchants should be able to approve affiliate by affiliate whether they allow access.

As it stands it is a tool that will be used to spam. There will be people that use it correctly, but a whole lot more that won't.

I'd have to agree with the general consensus. On the surface, this may seem like a great idea, but when you put thought into it, you can see the negatives.

Looks like about 4 or 5 people used it today, I am actually surprised it hasn't been used by spammers more to be quite honest.

It's LinkShare, maybe they're trying to find a way to use a toolbar with it.
