Search For Merchant By Name Oddity
Not sure I understand the search logic used on SAS to find merchants. There is a merchant on SAS that I was searching for using the basic keyword search.

Let's say the merchant's name is "Fred Flinstone".

I do the following and the merchant does not come up...

    1. View and Search Merchant List
    2. Basic Keyword Search
    3. Type in "Fred" and hit [Begin Search]

    NOT FOUND

Now, I do the following and the merchant comes up in the list...

    1. View and Search Merchant List
    2. Basic Keyword Search
    3. Type in "Flinstone" and hit [Begin Search]

    FOUND IT!

Being a programmer, I would think the search algorithm would search for either string in the merchant name, unless the search is searching some other variable? Dunno, doesn't make much sense to me.

No real algorithm needed - the merchant fills in a field with their own selection of search terms. A'la: Search Keywords (Used by our affiliates to find your program)

The Flin(t)stone-style example might have been the result of fat-finger typing on the part of the merchant. When I completed the information form for our new program I intentionally included (at least) one common typo for "checks."

That explains why some merchants are so hard to find and others pop up in unexpected (unrelated) places.

A simple search of the merchant name(s), in addition to the "search keywords" would seem to make sense to me.

Merchant's name *is* included in the search, but sometimes it isn't the name you think it is. It's the company name. Also words are pulled from the merchant info page, try a search for "loxly" under basic search and all my managed programs appear

If a certain merchant isn't showing up in a search for their name, shoot the merchant an email (once you find them) or shoot Shareasale an email.

Should be merchant name. I've brought this up before along with some others:

It's annoying, I wish they would make it more usable when searching for merchants.

This was brought up at Think Tank. Shoot them an email, they wanted to see examples so they can fix it.
