I had one the other day that wouldn't let me surf the net. I'd type in the address and it would take me to the other page. I had to change the properties of a favorite to get to another site. I couldn't get the thing out, although their site had a link to download an uninstaller... no way I wanted anything else from them. I was planning on formatting anyway, so I did.

Since then I think I had the winpup one I think, not sure... but I did have another one just now that seemed to have something to do with windows media player. My icon was different and I thought it mighth be something to do with my recent format. Well, I tried to listen to a cd and instead of media player loading I started getting occassional ads. Adaware showed some files with the words windows media in the directories I believe. Anyway, these past couple of day have been a pain for crummy software.

Anybody know anything about this software that I mentioned or that Chet did?
I forgot what I was doing.

Nifty site for doing some quick research on the Ad Whores within the affiliate advertising industry with AIDS. (AIDS =Advertising Integrity Disfunctional Syndrome) Like in the real world AIDS is always fatal and those at the highest risk are all members of the IAB/DMA.

Some of the AIDS strains are shown here

Because the never ending war against Spyware is escalating to new heights, SpywareInfo and XBlock have joined forces to achieve the most effective malware detection.

    How does it work?
This scanner is an ActiveX applet. After a short delay in which your browser downloads the control file, you will receive a "Warning Dialogue" requesting permission for the scanner to run. Click "Yes" and the applet will pop up and scan. You will be alerted if any spyware is found. When a spyware or malware is found, you will be alerted and asked if you want to remove it. If no spyware is found, the scanner will disappear on its own. Great quick scan thta found ShopatHomeSelect and a drive-by nCase/180Solutiuons install on my system after a morning scan using Ad-Aware6.0

If nothing happens, or if you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer, click here and choose either "Open" or "Run this program from its current location". Do not choose "Download".

Note: If your problem is with popup's entitled "Messenger Service", go here ....

Errrr. If you disabled ActiveX, you wouldn't have to worry about drive-by installs anymore.

I think I found out how this got on my system. Not sure exactly where, have to trace that down in the morning, but it seems a new site I am working on for fun - flash/java games is going to change to flash only. I had a trojan installed using java somehow (updated my virus checker and it went crazy over some java files in my cache).

So I cleaned off everything but the base java install, and am retracing my steps trying to see what java application may have asked for a download etc. Some of these are valid downloads as they extend java with 3D etc. But one of them was not playing nice. Pissed me off, as it eventually made my PC unusable.

I was going to warn members of the peel.com network what scum they were working with, then I went to some of their sites and each one had at least 2 pieces of software try and install itself on my PC. So no hope trying to explain it to them.

This really does piss me off as this pc has been running for 2 years now with zero spyware on it, zero infections. I am careful. If it came from Java, it had to come from a few sites I trust, argh!!!!!!!

That sh*ts a killer huh? I got no clue where I got it but when I tried to uninstall the darn thing it shut my system down. Boy that's wicked stuff. (Ncase, ezula? All kinds of search bars). I finally had to go to a backup to get rid of everything.

Somebody sent me these links the other day (I guess I should have tried them.) Apparently these programs will stop the trojans and parasites in their tracks. Haven't had a chance to check them out yet but I figure I'd share...

    SpyBlaster - available at: www.javacoolsoftware.com

A user forum on the software is at http://www.wilderssecurity.com (they
are currently upgrading their system and might be down when you first try the link)

    Spybot - available at:
    http://www.safer-networking.org.
The download link is on left.

Maybe we all should just start suing people with all these drive by downloads since they do slow down, mess up or make our computers unusable. I can see this happening. Would we have a case, does anybody know anybody who actually has done this?
